shelterrific

Description
A more thoughtful design blog that focuses on the home. Includes a "real life test kitchen" category which I enjoy. Written by a group of people mainly in the design magazine industry. I enjoy the writing style of this blog - you're not here just for the images.

NOTCOT.
First to recommend
Description
NOTCOT is a clearing house for design ideas. I'll quote below from their About description.
"NOTCOT Inc is a growing network of design sites currently including NOTCOT.com and innovative community contributed sites NOTCOT.org + TasteSpotting.com + NotCouture.com.
NOTCOT is a visual filtration of ideas + aesthetics + amusements. NOTCOT's two sites have become the daily sources of inspiration for creatives everywhere, fighting the good fight against "creative block" since 2005 with visually stunning imagery, the latest in international trends, and a passion for all things well designed.
NOTCOT.ORG is a community of creatives, design lovers, and trendsetters - where .org serves as the studio bulletin board gone digital - each image and caption brings you to a place worth visiting. It's about sharing what inspires you. Bookmarks, del.icio.us, digg, blogrolls, etc. make you read, search and think. This is the PICTUREBOOK to their novel. NOTCOT.COM is the editorial face of NOTCOT, offering in-depth features on products, artists, technology, innovation, and up-and-coming trends.
With the addition of TasteSpotting and NotCouture, what more could one need. TasteSpotting delivers the creme de la creme of delectable food and drink from our community of foodies. NotCouture keeps you looking your best, as users find the latest and greatest in fashion and beauty for men and women. (And don't be fooled, this is a designer's take on fashion, not just the usuals in every magazine you see)"

Apartment Therapy

Description
Based on the idea that to create a good living space, you have to combine therapy with design, Apartment Therapy has created a movement as well as a constellation of blogs. Including, Apartment Therapy sites for NY, LA, Chicago, SF, as well as Kitchen, Nursery, Green and Tech, this is a behemoth of design.
A couple of times a year, people come together on the site to do "cures" which can range from a single room to an entire house.
The comment sections are replete with no-nonsense advice which can range from kind to cruel, so be warned.
The site focuses on small city living spaces but that doesn't mean that someone with a large house in the Midwest wouldn't find something interesting to read here.

Oh Joy!
First to recommend
Description
Oh Joy, besides being an awesome design blog, is written by a fellow Philly person, yo! But if you're not in Philly, don't let that stop you from enjoying her exquisite taste in design because she posts about design across the country.
In the past year, she focused on weddings while preparing for her own and wrote about some lovely things; more recently, she posted a collection of Halloween-related products on ThisNext.

print & pattern

Description
I had no idea that patterns could be quite so neat to look at. Print and Pattern is pretty much eponymous, a collection of all sorts of prints and patterns. Definitely one of those blogs that you should take a look at because I'm not describing it well.

Decor8

Description
Holly Becker's blog Decor8 is another of my favorites. I think reading her blog encouraged me to go rumbling through Etsy to find all sorts of marvelous things. Her Etsy Finds category is always full of neat stuff.
Recently enjoyable were her entries on a trip to Stockholm where she spent time in a lot of different shops and observed that Sweden does not have a tradition of "to the trade" only stores. Lots of incredible fabrics in bold and exciting prints.
She always has something interesting to say and interesting to look at.

Popgadget - Personal Tech & Innovative Lifestyle For Women

Description
I have no idea why on ThisNext, this site is strangely entitled Flocked Sweater, but I really wish I could change that.
Popgadget is a design blog focused on gadgets. Several posts a week focus on new products ranging from the useful to the completely silly.
The blog's sister, Babygadget, is also worth a read. Lots of of fun toys.
