Time Machines - a list by dwilliams

About this list:
Time is an artificial construct, a sort of consensual hallucination. I think that might be the basic reason we can be so obsessed with it. It's not real and yet we believe that it is and we allow it to govern, even control our lives. Our fascination with time takes shape in the myriad of time keeping devices available. This list contains timekeeping devices I would like to own or think are just pretty darn neat.

Tubular Time: WORD CLOCK
First to recommend
Description
Time is displayed on the Tubular Time Clock in phrases such as “quarter past four” and “five minutes past six” instead of the pedestrian “4:15″ and “6:05.” The clock mounts to any wall, and runs on a single AA battery. It’s quite large, measuring in at 33″ wide and a 4.5″ diameter, so you’ll need some space to hang this sucker.

Shinshoku : uni-band style wristwatch

6 people recommended this item
Description
Geek bling. The Shinshoku (Corrosion) is the newest watch released by TokyoFlash. It’s aiming for an industrial look; in fact, it’s basically a bracelet made out of an aluminium band with holes punched in it. Beneath 29 of these holes there are LEDs. You can choose between LEDs of different colors(red, green, yellow) or the same colors, which will make the watch even more cryptic, and also impractical in the dark, as only the shallow etching in the middle will have to be seen. The principle is rather simple. The red(left side) LEDs show the hour, the bottom right 3 LEDs (green) show elapsed 15 minutes-intervals, and the top right ones (yellow) shows single minutes past the last quarter hour.
