Time Machines - a list by dwilliams

About this list:
Time is an artificial construct, a sort of consensual hallucination. I think that might be the basic reason we can be so obsessed with it. It's not real and yet we believe that it is and we allow it to govern, even control our lives. Our fascination with time takes shape in the myriad of time keeping devices available. This list contains timekeeping devices I would like to own or think are just pretty darn neat.

Not much info on this one. I guess if you are willing to spend that kind of money on a mushroom shaped table clock, then you either know everything you need to know about it or you just don't care.

The lid of this sardine can is half off, but plenty's still on to read the time as the sardine goes tick-tocking away on the other side of the lid. This clever clock will look great in your house. Takes one AA battery, included.

Rosendahl Alarm Clock
First to recommend
Description
There is something very satisfying about the simple shiny black cube design of this alarm clock from Rosendahl. Like the pyramids of Giza or the enigmatic monolith from 2001, basic geometric shapes can often project a strong, timeless message. This one clearly says, "I own a very 1337 alarm clock and, so sad, you do not." We like that message. High functionality is at the core of Rosendahl's new series of timepieces. This alarm clock has a digital display, a snooze function and it lights up automatically when the alarm is set. It also has a blue backlight display. Designed by Flemming Bo Hansen. Integrated crystal and case made of polycarbonate crystal.

ChronoArt Clock
First to recommend
Description
Somewhere along the line clocks that display time in ways other than the standard hour hand-minute hand and digital numerials format came into being. For those few who can actually read digital (and you know who you are!) that's fine. For the rest of us, these are nice to look at.
From the website: Chimes, color, light, and time combine into an ever-changing functional work of art. This wall clock uses a series of multi-colored lights and a system similar to the binary clock to display the time of day. Entertaining and unique, ChronoArt clock features a face that changes every single minute of the hour, and a chime which announces every hour.

Description
You will want one of these. You will max out your credit card to get it, but it will be worth it. Playful, wondrous timepieces emerge that take flight on cherubic wings, float and sway on fine wires, or appear frozen mid-explosion with flying springs and cogs that bounce at the touch.
