The Wicker Man (Two-Disc Special Edition)

Description
A devout and pious Catholic police sergeant travels to a remote Scottish island when he receives word that a young girl has gone missing. What he finds shocks and subtly intrigues while threatening his religious beliefs - a deeply pagan and close-knit society who worship nature over established religion. With strange customs and overt sensuality on full display at each turn, Edward Woodward's Sergeant Howie rallies forth to do his duty and solve the central mystery of the missing child. Entangling with the town's charmingly sinister leader Lord Summerisle (a wonderful Christopher Lee), the beguiling landlord's daughter and nymph Willow (Britt Eckland) and a host of other vaguely sinister characters, Howie delves deeper and deeper into the mysteries of the island, until the Wicker Man's stunning conclusion.
It's an utterly unforgettable and original film, sadly underrated at the time of its release and it's brilliance was barely touched by the abysmal, woefully misguided 2006 remake of the same name.

Shallow Grave

Description
Danny Boyle is one of my absolute favourite directors. Every film he makes is in a different classic genre, and he encapsulates each one perfectly while adding his own twist to it.
Shallow Grave was his first film and paired with screenwriter John Hodge and producer Andrew Macdonald (the trio would go on to make The Beach, A Life Less Ordinary and The Beach), he has created a wonderfully Hitchcockian stylish and suspenseful dark drama. Three wonderfully elitist yuppies (played by Kerry Fox, Ewan Macgregor and Christopher Eccleston) need a fourth to share their amazing flat. When their choice, the mysterious Hugo (Keith Allen) overdoses on his first night there, the trio find a suitcase stuffed with cash in his room and decides to dispose of the body, keeping the money for themselves. Then things get really interesting...
It's a clever, excellently cast film about jealousy, ego and manipulations. The three leads are pitch-perfect and Boyle's eye for visuals saturate the film in shart angles, rich textures and lighting.

Puzzle - Biffy Clyro

Description
The last release from Glasgow's beloved Biffy Clyro. It's hard rock with a taste for classic pop hooks, and these boys can rock like the best of them. They've been comfortably residing in the underground for over 15 years, content to be Glasgow's offical house band, but they're beginning to make waves in the mainstream.

Description
Everything about this movie works - from the script that's been pared down from the meandering, multi-voiced novel by Irvine Welsh to the energetic performances by the cast led by Ewan McGregor and Robert Carlyle to the beautifully dismal cinematography to the brilliant soundtrack that easily stands on its own. It's certainly not everyone's cup of tea, but Trainspotting is a classic in my book.
It's not easy to watch, nor easy to forget once you have but it's an experience not to be missed.
