Soy Candles by Timothy Han London

First to recommend

Description

What: Soy Candles from Timothy Han London

Why: It’s hard to be creative after years of housewarming, new baby and “just because” gifts. These luxurious candles from Timothy Han London make a beautiful gift and have more going for them than any other scented candle you’ve tried, guaranteed.

Timothy Han candles are 100% natural, handcrafted from pure essential oils and soy-wax free from genetically modified ingredients, herbicides and pesticides. The unique composition guarantees that they burn better and are more eco-friendly than most candles—but it’s the scents that really set these candles apart. No perfumes or flowery scents, just naturally beautiful aromas that work for women or men.

PlasmaCar

Description

Why: You don’t plan on buying your kid a car until he’s at least 16 (if he’s good), but you might change your mind when you see a PlasmaCar in action. OK, so it’s not a real car, but kids as young as three can cruise around the neighborhood without having to worry about rising gas prices.

That’s because the PlasmaCar is completely kid-powered. No pedals or batteries—all it needs is a driver to turn the steering wheel from side to side, and then physics takes over.

The PlasmaCar is simple enough for my two year old, who has been giving driving lessons to his playground friends, but it’s built so parents weighing up to 220 pounds can enjoy it, too. Sure, my husband and I probably look silly zipping along the sidewalk in it, but the stares are worth it (they’re just jealous).

Thymes to Do the Dishes

First to recommend

Description

What: Thymes Kitchen Cleaning Products

Why: Call me strange, but I’m just as happy receiving dish soap instead of wine as a hostess gift. Really, but I’m not talking about the cheap stuff like Palmolive (although I spend so much time at the kitchen sink, I’ll gladly take that, too). I’m talking about Thymes.

If you’ve never tried anything from the line, you’re missing out because their products turn the mundane chore into a quick escape. Try the Dishwashing Liquid and get those dishes naturally clean while you enjoy unexpected but refreshing scents like Mandarin Coriander and Kumquat Lime. The best part? The calendula flower and mallow extract pamper and soothe those overworked hands.

Price: starting at $9 (also available as gift sets starting at $28)

Father’s Day Find: Hand-Blended Fragrances for Him

First to recommend

Description

What: Fresh Scents by Terri

Why: Hurrah! My husband finally used the last drop of the cologne he’s been working on for over a decade. I like the scent on him, but frankly I was thrilled when we tossed the bottle in the recycling bin.

I was even more thrilled to avoid the department store and try the two men’s fragrances from Fresh Scents by Terri. I’d read about her women’s fragrances in magazines like In Touch and knew that the scents she created had a bit of a celebrity following. But would my man like My Man or would he prefer Gregory?

The site describes My Man as “Sexy, Masculine, Fresh,” a blend of musks and bergamot. Gregory is a “Rugged and Sexy” blend featuring patchouli and ylang ylang. My vote was for My Man because I really like musks. He went for Gregory. Then, knock me over with a feather, he LAYERED the two! It was the perfect mix of clean and sexy.

We both liked the simple, elegant bottles. Another plus - each scent has a companion shower gel and moisturizer. Looks like he found his scent for the next decade.
