Description
The Solar Powered Patio Umbrella ($200) provides shade during the day and light at night. During the day, when the sun is beating down, a solar panel on top of the umbrella collects the sunlight as power. At dusk, 24 LED lights embedded in the umbrella's canopy and spreaders automatically illuminate for up to 8 hours. If you prefer natural light from the moon and stars, there is also an Auto/On/Off switch built-in. (via The Green Head)

Compact Fluorescent Bulbs
First to recommend
18 people recommended this item
Description
If every American home replaced just one light bulb with a compact fluorescent, we would save enough energy to light more than 2.5 million homes for a year and prevent greenhouse gases equivalent to the emissions of nearly 800,000 cars.**
I bought a dozen of them at 1000bulbs.com, the 15 watt are only 1.89 each +shipping, lights equivalent to 75 watts. A really simple way to save the world, & save on your electric bill too.

LED Light Bulbs
4 people recommended this item
Description
If you're serious about saving the planet from burning, invest in an LED bulb. They're better than compact fluorescents, though more expensive. It's amazing how much of a difference it would make if every American household had even just one of these instead of a much-used incandescent. And if all the bulbs were replaced by these LEDs, the impact would be huge.
