Apple iPod nano 8GB Portable MP3 Player
First to recommend
Description
I know this is like practically the 1997 of iPods, and the Apple store guy was even like, "Really?" when I bought it. Because of course the smart economy would seem to suggest just getting all that extra disk space, and the video feature. But this little Nano is awesome - I actually think about what music's on there instead of just jamming my entire collection on it - which means there's less stuff on it that I'm totally sick of (Missy Elliott). The battery lasts forever - and because it's so light, it'll just swing on the headphone cable if you drop it, instead of crashing to the floor like the heavier regular ones. (I've been there.) If someone offered me a free, bigger one, I wouldn't make that trade. I'll be driving from New York to Portland, via Cincinnati, Austin, and Denver for these readings - the Nano is going to be indispensable.

Lee Jeans EUROPE

Description
I have no idea why Euro Lee Jeans are so much better than US ones, but they are, and I love mine, which I got in London a couple years ago. They're as much a constant traveling companion as my passport. I'm just so sad I'm going to be to grow out of them after two weeks on the road of eating at gas stations - M&Ms, Snickers bars, Pringles, and beef jerky.

I drive in these - they're not embarrassing when I need to get out to get gas for the car but they're super comfortable even after long stretches behind the wheel.

Luminous Skin Colour by BECCA Cosmetics
First to recommend
Description
It's my absolute must-have beauty product, one of the few I was sure to take all the way from London to Mongolia this summer. It never feels too heavy, and it has an SPF. If my skin's freaking out I'll wear it with their Mattifying Primer, but after that, I'm good to go.

T-Mobile BlackBerry Pearl(TM) phone

Description
It's almost more crucial to my day-to-day than my laptop. And T Mobile has this amazing flat-rate for overseas email access - I checked my email about 100 times a day and sent loads of messages all the way from London to Mongolia this summer, for $20 a month. I'm sure that's the best deal I've ever heard of. And I love the Pearl versus the full-keyboard models - I had one of the bigger ones and it just felt like I was lugging around an extra computer. Er, that's a bit dramatic, but I definitely prefer this one.

Description
I don't wear much make-up - this provides loads of shine whether it's over something else or on its own. (I usually go for the latter.)

Heat-Protective Silk-Straightening Cream by Kiehl's

Description
My hair tends toward frizz all the time and my bangs basically point straight up if I don't blow them out. (Annoying.) This is my favorite straightener, although I find it's most effective when I use about twice as much as I think I should. I also like Bumble and bumble's Straight but I kind of OD'd on the line when I was working at a hair salon that used their products exclusively. I can still smell the Alojoba shampoo.

Leather Pocket Tote

Description
I really resisted buying this bag - I'd even picked out what I was going to buy with my store credit (shorts and peep-toe shoes) when I returned it. But it holds everything - my camera, phone, chargers, my laptop, the galley copy of my book I have marked up with the sections I read.
