First to recommend

Description

Super news! You can try out School of Thought by DOWNLOAD for $10 off the book price. This means you get the whole book for less. If you like the format, worksheets, format of journal sheets, buy the book to receive the hardcover version. The benefit of buying the book is that the book jacket doubles as a board game to ground writers in a visual as they write.
Very super cool smart idea. DOWNLOAD IT.

Previous description of why I love, love, love this Super Steal Gift Book:
This book (School of Thought) is the Superest of Super Steal Gifts!
Read the description, reviews, and preview the inside of the book at http://www.lulu.com/content/1371969 and you'll see how this simple game & journal all in one hardcover book is a very SMART STEAL.
How cool is this? The book jacket is the game board - kids will love that!
Why this is a Super Steal: I can be a darn good writer, but the reel of those MasterCard (or is it Visa?) commercials is so vividly running through my brain: Here goes:
A Super Teacher receives this gift from a Super Parent of one of her Super Students and suddenly, not-so-super students write Super essays - $24.95.
A Super Wife foregoes the socks, underwear, peanuts and cologne stocking stuffer for her husband, opts instead for a book that does in 5 minutes what 50 minutes of marriage counseling can do: $24.95. (Thank you, honey. Does this mean we can take off a couple weeks with Dr. Edward)
A Super Mom gets this book for her teenager who is grateful that mom is finally getting her cool gifts: $24.95.
ONLY having to buy the same Super Gift for your husband, child and teacher? Priceless.
Okay, that was cheesy. Disclaimer: I am not only a Super Teacher, but a Super Mom of 3...and wrote that to a chorus of children...
Super Smart Steal: School of Thought ONLY $24.95

The New American Dictionary by The Institute for Infinitely Small Things (Book) in Reference

Description

Smart Smart Smart Steal...This is what I love: a gift that you can buy a bunch of and it works to give your teenager, her teacher and your husband. They will all love, but in different ways.
Teens, how cool is this concept? Finally, a book that allows you to be RIGHT all the time! This is a dictionary that gives YOU the ability to define your own words. Your VOICE, your WAY! You are that important at 15 years old, and totally have the right to define every word in the dictionary. SO here it is: The New American Dictionary.
Teachers, words mean different things to different people and for English and ESL teachers, this could be an invaluable tool to gain a snapshot of your students.
This is the kind of book that gets you real time info. on your students.
As for me? This is what I am going to do with this book: At my next party, I am going to use it as a "guestbook". Once I taught a Japanese Poetry Writing Workshop, and we did something like this: In Japan there is a type of poetry called "Renga". The host of the party writes a haiku:
Thank you my guests for coming
Eat drink Be merry
Enjoy until the night ends!

Each guest passes the table with the haiku and writes a similar haiku in reponse to the host's haiku, and so on, until their is a beautiful compilation of related poems from the evening.
Okay so back to how I will use the New American Dictionary: Each guest at my party will define a word. What a great, ever changing, ever evolving coffee table book!
IT's smart. It's a steal. It's only $19.95. (via Institue for Infinitely Small Things)

Snatch Word Game

Description

This game will appeal to the Scrabble and Boggle lovers but is much easier to learn than Scrabble and more interesting than Boggle. Games can be as fast as you want, or you can spend minutes trying to figure out how to steal words that others have built by reordering and adding letters.

Etsy.com is a just plain SMART. If you want a unique gift, a gift SO SPECIAL and SO PERSONAL, go to Etsy.com. This is a world of handmade products that are reasonably priced and unique, unique, unique. Let's face it, we all have to spend some on gifts. Why not support artists?
Here's why:
Ever see that Simpson's episode where Bart is getting his ear pierced in a shopping mall and every sign says "Starbucks" "Starbucks" "Starbucks"? Remember how Bart left the store where he got his ear pierced and it said, "Going out of business. Coming Soon...Starbucks".
Browse through Etsy and you'll find a steal of a deal on a unique gift and be supporting artists by keeping alive the art of arts and crafts and all things handmade.
Smart move, consumers of America. We do NOT want to turn into one big long strip mall of Starbucks, do we? (via Public School of Thought)
