About this list:
Here I present to you, in no particular order or ranking, a list of songs and/or albums that I love. I have no real genre preference, although you may notice that there is more of one particular type of music represented here than another. That's purely accidental. I love music that moves me: that makes me laugh, sing, cry, dance, reminisce, dream or think. And I'm always in search of more music to accompany on this wild and crazy ride we call life . . .

Uncommon Goods: Illuminated Rock Star Robot by Toby Fraley
First to recommend
Description
Who knew robots could rock ? ! Well, this one sure does . . . and he can rock your world a one-of-a-kind night light. Cleverly constructed from thermoses, vacuum cleaner tubes and other detritus, this guy may even be related to Wall-E (the animated robot charged with cleaning up Planet Earth in the animated film of the same name.)

Description
Originally a "download of the week" artist on iTunes, I eventually became so entranced by this first song that I bought the whole album. The digital booklet which comes with the album contains photographs of the artist, hauntingly beautiful graphics and the lyrics to each song. (via ITunes)

Peter Gabriel - Passion (Remastered)
First to recommend
Description
Although this album is the soundtrack of the movie "Passion", I remember it best as the musical accompaniment to the multimedia modern dance extravaganza performed by the dance troupe "Momix". The dance incorporated a constantly changing array of stage-size photographs, representing the full range of human experience: love, hate, war, unity, passion, lassitude and, above all, beauty. This music is a mirror of both my experience in that theater and as a person. (Catch "Momix" at The Joyce Theatre in NYC now through June 8, 2008.)

iTunes Store: Rodgers and Hammerstein - The Sound of Music
First to recommend
Description
Definitely one of my favorite things. I lost track a long time ago of the number of time I have seen "The Sound of Music" on television. But I always sing right along with the cast, so it's generally best if I watch it alone. Now I can sing to my heart's content while playing this soundtrack in my car.

Feist - The Reminder
First to recommend
Description
Although "1 2 3 4" was probably the breakthrough song for Feist, having been the music behind at least a month's worth of iTunes commercials toward the end of last year, I got hooked by "Sea Lion". And then I bought the album and got altogether hooked. It keeps me sane when I am driving, which I do so much of these days.

Description
From the groovy "Creep" to the gut-wrenching 'Waterfalls", this album displays the full range of TLC's vocal talent. Such an incredible trio of women, I just wish that all three of them were still around to sing for us.

Billy Joel - Greatest Hits, Vols. 1 & 2
First to recommend
Description
Although I would probably pick "Movin' Out" as my favorite Billy Joel album, I love so many songs on each of the albums he has produced that I whole-heartedly recommend this collection of greatest hits. In the end, he IS "the piano man" and I love him most when he displays that sweet, vulnerable side of his musicality.

Dave Matthews Band - Crash
First to recommend
Description
Dave Matthews entered my life at a very confusing time . . . and his music somehow seemed to help me get out that primal scream I needed to scream. I love his voice, but it goes much deeper than sound or lyrics. His songs seem to collectively exclaim, "This is a crazy world, but it's the only one we've got so hold on for the ride . . . and enjoy as much of it as you can."

Various Artists - A Lot Like Love (Music from the Motion Picture)
First to recommend
Description
I am a real sucker for soundtracks. In this case, I love the movie as much as I love the soundtrack. The music spans a few decades and several genres, but it still manages to capture that feeling of "touch and go" that typifies some of the relationships I myself have had. And, some may say its sappy stuff, but I love Chicago's "If You Leave Me Now".
