About this list:
Here I present to you, in no particular order or ranking, a list of songs and/or albums that I love. I have no real genre preference, although you may notice that there is more of one particular type of music represented here than another. That's purely accidental. I love music that moves me: that makes me laugh, sing, cry, dance, reminisce, dream or think. And I'm always in search of more music to accompany on this wild and crazy ride we call life . . .

Prince & The Revolution - Purple Rain (Soundtrack from the Motion Picture)
First to recommend
Description
I'll never forget watching "Purple Rain" at my best friend's house one weekend. As her father glanced briefly at one particularly emotional scene, he asked us, "Why is that man smashing the canned goods?" We laughed hysterically, relishing a priceless moment of gender gap gaffe. But it was really the music that we loved, and the sense of reckless abandon Prince displayed both as a musician and an actor. And I still remember the hand choreography of "I Will Die For You." If I ever did a YouTube video, that would be my subject.

Squeeze - Singles 45's and Under

Description
Oh, this album is jam-packed with fabulous tunes ! Some have been resurrected again and again ("Tempted".) Some remain relatively unknown (Is That Love.) But the songs are fun and great picks for your party playlist.

Carole King - Her Greatest Hits (Songs of Long Ago)
First to recommend
Description
My first "real" boyfriend gave me Carole King's "Tapestry" album as a gift, and I listened to it over and over and over again after he went back to boarding school and I returned to my life as a public school girl. I'll never forget him. But Carole King has been a far more reliable "friend" . . . and she never broke my heart. She does make me dance, though. I think most people would agree it's hard to not at least tap your feet to "I Feel The Earth Move". More recently, I have discovered that Carole has been a prolific song writer for most of her adult life, and is the genius behind so many of the songs we love. You rock our world, Lady King.

Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin IV (Remastered)

Description
I didn't discover the music of Led Zeppelin until long after this album was released but I do believe that no music collection would be complete without this collection of rock classics. If "Black Dog" doesn't rock your world, then perhaps rock just isn't in your blood.

List that features this:
Thievery Corporation - The Cosmic Game
First to recommend
Description
I originally got hooked on Thievery Corporation after hearing one of their tracks in the background of an "Alias" episode that took place in Morocco. But that was like trying to understand Spanish by learning to say, "Hola!" The depth and breadth of Thievery's music cuts across so many genres and cultures that it could be dubbed "world music." But the electronic undertones give it an entirely 21st century twist. Take a listen if you haven't already.

List that features this:
Sheryl Crow - Detours
First to recommend
Description
Her music may be easy on the ears, but Sheryl Crow's lyrics always address the tough and tender side of life. This album is no different and may perhaps be her most thought-provoking to date. And I would love to see her perform up close and personal.

Various Artists - Saturday Night Fever (The Original Movie Soundtrack) [Remastered]

Description
I'll never forget how shamelessly I begged to see "Saturday Night Fever" when the movie was first released. But my parents steadfastly refused. So, I settled for what I thought was the next best thing: the soundtrack. Little did I know I would still be listening and jiving to this music long after the untimely demise of Studio 54.

New Order - International - The Best of New Order
First to recommend
Description
While in college, I took a trip to NYC during one of my breaks. My prize possession from all the shopping I did that day: a poster for the New Order song "True Faith". It hung in my dorm room until I graduated and then I carried it with me when I got my first job in Manhattan. Needless to say, I was and still am a huge fan of the group known as New Order.

Description
I am proud to say that I choreographed my very first solo dance to "How Sweet It Is." I would like be able to add that it was the dance that launched a career in dance, but, sadly that has not been my fate. But James Taylor remains a favorite.

Simple Minds - Glittering Prize 81/92
First to recommend
Description
For quite some time I could not listen to "Don't You (Forget About Me)" without a nearly paralyzing sense of nostalgia sweeping over me. Simple Minds was the soundtrack to a sweet, but short-lived love affair . . . I have moved on but I take the music with me wherever I go.
