About this list:
The film industry is pretty much done patting itself on the back and handing out awards to each other, so time to usher in the latest batch of docudramaindiethrillactionadventureanimhorromedies of 2009. Here's a list of movies I'm either really excited about seeing or vaguely interested in (meaning I'll wait for it on DVD).

Big Man Japan

Description
Wow! This Japanese action film looks bizarre. It's a bout a middle aged man who, when shocked with electricity, is transformed into a gargantuan super hero that battles monsters. I'll definitely be seeing this one. (via Six Shooter FIlm Series)

I swear, I saw this trailer about 4 years ago. Its been in the can FOREVER. Its a familiar story, but it piqued my interest. Its about a husband and wife (Thomas Jane and Diane Lane) who unfortunately cross paths with a con man (Joseph Gordon Levitt) and an over-the-hill hitman (Mickey Rourke).
They probably wanted to wait to release this after Rourke's pseudo comeback to cash on some of his Wrestler hype.
Its finally set for release sometime this year. (via Coming Soon)

Earth - Disney Movie

Description
Disney's latest nature film. It essentially looks like the Planet Earth documentaries. Shot in what appears to be HD, I'm sure this film will provide is with stunning imagery from all over the globe, below and above ground. Judging by the trailer it should be pretty breath taking. (via Disney)

Where the Wild Things Are - Film Release
First to recommend
Description
This movie has been in production since 2004! Its directed by Spike Jonze and co written by Dave Eggars. The icing on the cake is the costumes and creature effects have been done by the Jim Henson Creature shop, which means minimal CGI and actual costumes. Yay! If all goes well, which it seems like it hasn't, this movie should hit theaters in October of 2009. (via FIlm Releases)

The Wolfman

Description
I've been waiting for this for awhile now. I'll have to wait a little longer since this horror remake won't be coming out until November of 2009. Its stars Benecio Del Toro as the Wolfman. (via The Wolfman Movie)

Good Hair
First to recommend
Description
Well it's about time somebody seriously and critically addressed the issues about hair in the Black community. And suprisingly enough, it was Chris Rock who did it. The documentary film was inspired by a question Rock's young daughter asked him: “Daddy, how come I don’t have good hair?” Unsure about how to answer her question, Rock decided to
explore historical and contemporary sources to shed light on "the way black hairstyles impact the activities, pocketbooks, sexual relationships, and self-esteem of black people". Featuring interviews with Ice T, Maya Angelo, Kerry Washington, Al Sharpton and Nia Long to name a few. I can't wait to see how he tackles this subject. (via Sundance)

The Boat That Rocked

Description
Now the only thing that makes me want to see this movie is a cast of actors that I think are: a) briliant b) super talented c) hilarious d) all of the above. Nothing about the trailer is making me jump up and down in my seat with excitement. I refuse to believe a great cast (Bill Nighy, Rhys Ifans, Nick Frost and Phillip Seymore Hoffman and Kenneth Branagh) could make a crappy movie. That said, I may wait until it's available on DVD, but I'll see it never- the-less.
Its about a pirate radio station in the 60's being broadcast on a boat in the North Sea by a bunch of rogue DJs. Hmmm, I'm interested. (via The Boat That Rocked)

Pandorum

Description
I'm a sci fi geek so I'll see this regardless. Its a deep space horror/ thriller about a crew that wakes up with no memory on an abandoned ship. Madness insues. It stars Dennis Quaid (who I'm pretty indifferent about) and Ben Foster (3:10 to Yuma) who I actually thing is one of the best young actors of his generation. Is that really saying much though? Anyway, I'll be in the theater to see this one in September. (via Pandora)

Description
"Our nation’s food supply is now controlled by a handful of corporations that often put profit ahead of consumer health, the livelihood of the American farmer, the safety of workers and our own environment. Food, Inc. reveals surprising — and often shocking truths — about what we eat, how it’s produced, who we have become as a nation and where we are going from here."
I can't wait to see this doc. Reform starts at home. (via Food, Inc.)
