About this list:

It's been a long hard road to find safe, USA-made, fun, artistic toys for my nieces and nephews. So here is my list so far. Hopefully, I'll have a long enough list to shop from for Christmas next year!

Wooden toy Block wagon with 100 Red Oak Unit Blocks

First to recommend

Description

Wow! How beautiful is this? The wagon is made from Black Cherry and the blocks from Red Maple. I have been searching high and low for wooden toys for my nieces and nephew. This would most definately be a toy that is passed on for generations. (via coolmompicks.com)

Insect Lore Buzzerks Hornet Bug Glasses

First to recommend

Description

Not that I have an inner dork, but these are especially cool! When I was taking entomology, my two little nieces loved catching insects with me. Wouldn't it be better to allow them to see the beauty in these creatures rather than the fear? The very interesting part of the glasses is that there is a lens that you can flip down to enable you to see like an insect - to mimic their compound eyes. They are advertised for ages 6 and up, made of plastic, and come in three insects: Fireant, Hornet, Praying Mantis. Not to be used for safety purposes. (via buzzerks.com)

Sunprint Paper Kit

First to recommend

Description

All that is needed is sunlight, water and an object. It works best in direct sunlight and with items that have more intricate edges (i.e. a fern compared to a rose leaf). Kids love to see the image appear and play around with differing objects.

Recycled Plastic Tea Set - Green Party Goods

First to recommend

Description

I am still finding pieces of terrible, toxic tea sets of my nieces. UGH!! How can I, a mere individual, convince their parents and other relatives to buy responsibly?

Non-toxic and safe and contain no traceable amounts of BPA, phthalates, or lead. Made in California from recycled milk jugs. Packaged in recycled paper.

Dolfi Cow Family Hand Carved Wooden 3-D Puzzle

First to recommend

Description

A few reasons I like this: it is hand-carved (unlike the machine-cut ones I've seen, though they are still adorable), it is not painted (non-toxic), and it's an artful puzzle. Beautiful.

Description

I love the idea of spreading the word with something we wear. They have adult and children sizes. How awesome would it be to see a three year old claiming she saved a life?

Adopt-A-Creature

First to recommend

Description

A little too late for Christmas, but this is always a great way to get kids involved and contribute to something bigger - while educating! Oceana focuses on specific campaigns to help make the ocean a better place.

There are 14 creatures to pick from and two other non-creature choices. With a $35 donation, you will recieve a cookie cutter of your adoptee, a cookie recipe, adoption papers, and info on the ocean, and $75 will get you four cookie cutters. Of course, these are small tokens/representations of the things you support. (via treehugger.com)
