It's been a long hard road to find safe, USA-made, fun, artistic toys for my nieces and nephews. So here is my list so far. Hopefully, I'll have a long enough list to shop from for Christmas next year!

Description
Never once did I think I could play basketball and recycle at the same time (come to think of it, why would I?). Nevertheless, it's possible. The ball consists of 40% recycled scrap rubber. Fantastic job - recycling, reusing, and not wasting.

Description
Made from 100% recycled plastic from a partnership with Stonyfield Farm and their yogurt containers (oddly, it's hard to recycle that number of plastic here, I guess someone can).
Plus, the handle must be very comfortable for those little hands it's meant for.

Description
Yes - a must have for anyone with hardwood floors. Slip these on and make it a game with the kids. I like the idea of keeping them in a bucket like the one shown too. Why do the floors yourself when you can have the little ones do it? (via thenewstayathomemom)

Description
Composting with worms is so easy! This is perfect for a small apartment in the city.
Worms + shredded paper + food (not meat or stuff like that)
= yummy food for plants!
If you get more compost than you could use, the BEST gift would be to wrap these up in something environmental and give them as gifts to gardeners! They would accept it as if it were gold.
And HELLO! Kids would love to watch this process.

Ok, so most people won't go out and splurge on all eco-friendly school supplies, but what if everyone tried to incorporate just one or two products into the mix. It would be a start.
Leave the petroleum out of crayon to save more for our cars! These soybean crayons claim to be brighter, flake less and draw smooth.

These batteries are the newest of rechargable batteries. As a hybrid, they have the power for high-drain products (cameras) and for low-drain devices (remotes, flashlights) - and have a comparable shelf-life of a traditional alkaline.
The HUGE benefit, is that when not in use, they can retain their charge for a ridiculous amount of time. One reviewer said he experienced a 26% energy loss in 6 months! Are you kidding me? I'm used to rechargable batteries lasting about 26 hours!
Definately worth investing in; however, this would also require a quality charger, which goes for about $40 on amazon.

Description
These remind me of the scented markers that were everywhere during the 1980s. Where did those go, anyway? They were probably toxic and removed quietly from the market. That would explain a lot.
Anyway, these are made from recycled newspaper and they smell delicious. Great party favors or gifts. (via Vat19)
