The Complete Baking Cookbook: 350 Recipes from Cookies and Cakes to Muffins and Pies
First to recommend
Description
A good resource for a wide range of nothing-too-fancy baked goods from Candied Ginger Cookies to Coffee Rum Brownies to Chocolate Pecan Bourbon Pie.
I tried the Lemon Souffle Cheesecake (p 171), mostly because the baker/author said it was inspired by a lemon cheesecake he had at Ciudad in Los Angeles. It was perfect for Spring! (via Cookbook-a-Day Giveaway)

Simply Organic: A Cookbook for Sustainable, Seasonal, and Local Ingredients
First to recommend
Description
Love that I can get this book from Anthropologie...The world is changing, and along with it, so must our eating habits. Author and restaurateur Jesse Ziff Cool has compiled over 30 years of knowledge about organic, local, and sustainable food into one magnificent cookbook. With 150 enticing recipes, Simply Organic encourages home cooks to embrace organics as a lifestyle rather than a fad. Cool organizes her chapters seasonally to ensure that the freshest, ripest ingredients enhance the flavors of dishes like Filet Mignon with mashed Potatoes and Leek Sauce in early spring to Pumpkin Raisin Bread Pudding in autumn. Inspiring profiles on farmers and producers reveal how these individuals are working to create a sustainable future every day. (via Cookbook-a-Day Giveaway)

The Sweet Melissa Baking Book

Description
Not a whole lot of pictures (just a few in the center), but some good recipes for homestyle, but bakery quality, sweets - carrot cake, coconut cake, chocolate chip cookies, and doughnuts! (via Cookbook-a-Day Giveaway)

The Complete Whole Grains Cookbook: 150 Recipes for Healthy Living
First to recommend
Description
Though the recipes are not particularly special, the real value in this book is the all of the information about each of the types of grains from amaranth to quinoa to...the most common, whole wheat. There is nutritional information, a little bit of history, and basic cooking techniques that are more useful lessons than each of the individual recipes. (via Cookbook-a-Day Giveaway)

Cheryl and Bill Jamison, James Beard Award winners of The Big Book of Outdoor Cooking and Entertaining, packed their bags and took a 3-month culinary tour of the world on the frequent flier miles they had collected. They stopped in: Bali, Australia (the world's best breakfast sandwich), Thailand, India, China, South Africa, and Brazil (Creole flavors). (via Cookbook-a-Day Giveaway)

2500 Recipes: Everyday to Extraordinary
First to recommend
Description
A comprehensive cookbook that has not only recipes for everything from a blueberry muffin to slightly more complicated things like Fish en Papillote. The book is divided into 50 chapters of obvious categories like "Salads" and "Pasta," as well as slightly more interesting ways to think of cooking like "Heatless Cooking" and "Romantic." It's a good reference, and won't replace my cooking bible, Joy of Cooking, but it's still a good one to have. (via Cookbook-a-Day Giveaway)

OK, so I'm being totally self-promoting, but I'm more proud of this book than anything I've ever done. I spent 7 months along with 2 assistants obsessively breaking apart fast food dishes. And the Cinnabon recipe alone was worth every minute of it.

Williams-Sonoma Collection: Bread
First to recommend
Description
It's not a new book (2002), but it's a good, basic intro to breads, both yeast-raised and quick, for bakers. Though Williams-Sonoma has another entire book dedicated to muffins, there are a few recipes in this book under "breakfast breads." (via Cookbook-a-Day Giveaway)

Cook the Perfect . . .
First to recommend
Description
It's a little arrogant, isn't it? To say that you can cook the "perfect" anything with this cookbook? I'm okay with it, though, because the one recipe I did try, Roasted Tomato Soup, was delicious. I only wish I had the time to try the French Onion before giving the book away. (via Cookbook-a-Day Giveaway)
