"Only Have Eyes for You" Hooker Mermaid Print

Description

No, I don't have any idea how the logistics of that would work, what with the tailfin and all. I'm trying not to think about it, just enjoying it for whatever the hell it is. But I like it.

HOOKER MEDALLIONS

First to recommend

Description

Corey Helford is a lady I'd like to knock a few martinis back with.

Not only is she a talented artist and jewelry designer but she has the cojones to unabashedly use hookers as her prime subject matter in a way that balances the obvious sensationalism with a certain elegance. If there is such a thing as slutty dignity- and I tend to think there most certainly is, at least in the proper lighting lol- then she's nailed it.

Why do I think that's great? Because when the hell is the last time you saw hooker art on a pendant? I mean, have you EVER? I haven't. And I am so thirsty for design (pardon the pun in advance) that ventures "outside the box" that I want to celebrate it at every opportunity.

The thought "I wish I had a hooker medallion" has never crossed my mind. Until today. Now I want one. Really want one. Do I think they're demeaning to women? No. The contrary. Just my opinion, but I believe that by utilizing the subject with her "Yeah, so they're hookers. So what?" attitude she humanizes a group of women that many of us have stripped of identities and reduced to a stereotype. Her subjects exude power in my eyes. Now, I wouldn't feel this way if they were 16-year-olds out on the street. But these women very much look like they want to be where they are. They used their freedom of choice. So they're hookers? So what.

Love these. Never would have thought I would but I do. As for the above rant, perhaps I'm overthinking it just to justify the purchase. Eh, so what. Bottom line? These are cool.

Pregnancy Tattoos

First to recommend

Description

As a mom of three, I'm pretty familiar with the lack of personal space that comes with gestating in public. Lots of hands. Touching me. Argh.

So here's a cute baby shower/preggo present that helps let people know Do Not Touch. Well, of course the catch is you have to be wearing a cut-off t-shirt. Dang. There's always a catch.

It's also a great item for providing entertainment at the shower- set up a little tattoo station and let the ladies be their bad ass selves, pregnant themselves or not.

GIANTmicrobes | Venereals

First to recommend

Description

Um ok... for the record, NOT something I encountered in my own divorce. BUT for those of you who have had messier break-ups, here's a "cute" way to inject some laughter into a sticky situation.

GIANTmicrobes also offers plush animals for anything from mad cow disease to the flu. Pretty funny, IMO.

Available both as a single plush and as a set of tiny microbes in a petri dish. HA.

"for they were whores" Photo Album, Coasters and Card

First to recommend

Description

Great vintage black and white photo cover with caption:
"the gals were left alone whilst gary and ronnie went to the boat show. they loved their husbands...and everyone else's too, for they were whores."

I had the coasters out at a ladies' night and must have written down the web site where I got them a dozen times. Lots of retro stuff, lots of laughs.

Another use? A GREAT hostess gift. Either on the front end- ie your Grand Arrival- or, pardon the phrase, the back end- ie a thank you gift. A few years ago I got into the habit of always taking my digital camera to every single party and forcing myself to snap shots. For all the work people put into getting ready for their shindig, they so rarely remember to take the photos they later would love to have had because they're busy 'hostessing.' So you can imagine how well a sassy little album with party shots is received by them- truly, I have had people basically well up with tears when I give them such a thank you gift.

Don't forget to chronicle your own fabulousness as well! Leave those unwieldy photo albums- the kind your mom filled with photos of your summer vacation road trip to Aunt Betty's in Topeka and used as a step-stool to get to the top shelf- in the cupboard and instead stock up on slim, clever little albums to showcase each individual event you have. Then set them out as eye candy and conversation starters at future events. Your guests are bound to find themselves amongst the pages of prior fetes.....

One last tip- Use a sticker or sharpie on the inside cover of each to write down the web site address of where you- in your immense organizational prowess- have uploaded your images. That'll save you the time of following up on the "Oh, can I can a copy of this???" requests you will surely receive. It's a classy way of saying, "Get it your damn self."

"Oh Pool Boy".... "Back on the Market".... "Call Me" Cocktail Napkins

First to recommend

Description

I pride myself on my ability to make people aspirate cocktails and shoot them out their noses. It's fun and free entertainment for the whole crowd.

Best of all, I've found that it's easy to accomplish by simply accessorizing your soiree well- a few funny napkins can go- and make liquid fly- a long way.

Such are these little delights. "Oh Pool Boy, I'll have another...." Come on, that's just funny. And the "Call Me ( ) .......-........." does double duty as witty AND practical. "Back on the Market" is clever as well.... let's ya be naughty but in a Republican way- ie having something else to blame, albeit something as innocuous as a napkin. (Sorry Elephants, just a little Donkey humor there.)

Well they're a conversation piece, no matter what else you may think. I find that they tend to grow on you the longer you stare at them. I think I might want them. If not now, then quite soon. I just don't know exactly why or for what.
