Handmade Necklace with Eco-Friendly Tagua Nut Pendant

First to recommend

Description

Looking for jewelry with a purpose? The new style statement is Tagua Nut, or "vegetabel ivory"- a wonderfully sustainable material that is not only gorgeous, but also helps preserve rainforests.

See, if villages in Central and South America can make money off of the naturally-growing tagua nut rainforest trees, then there is no reason to clear cut the rainforest.

But the thing is that tagua nut is an incredibly unique and beautiful material for making pendants. Look at the natural swirls in the photo. Every pendant is totally unique.

Additionally, these necklaces are artisan-made right here in the USA, with other handmade beads from around the world.

And for only $24.99, they make a very affordable fashion AND environmental statement (and a great gift, too)! I love telling strangers the story of the tagua nut when they comment on how beautiful and unusual my necklace is.

OMG! This kit is so cool! I used to be a teacher, and I just know my students would LOVE this! Using chicle (the sap from a Central American tree), this kit helps you make your own chewing gum in under 30 minutes. How fun is that??! I think it would make a great thing to do at a Halloween or birthday party, too!

Five LED Dynamo-Powered Crank Hurricane Lantern

First to recommend

Description

Lately my husband and I are very into gadgets that do not require electricity or batteries to operate, so we've been checking out solar-powered and crank-powered items. I review another crank-powered lantern with lots of cool features in my Green Living list, but it is quite a bit more expensive. This lantern is simple, functional, and SUPER-BRIGHT, much brighter than you would expect from a wind-up. If all you need is light, and not all those other fancy features of the higher-end crank lanterns, than this is the one for you! It's great for emergencies (like power-outages, never have to worry about dead batteries again!), camping, to keep in the car for roadside emergencies, and travel. We love it!

This lantern has the following features:

Five super-bright LED lamps
Dynamo power is ideal for emergencies, camping, picnics
Sturdy ABS housing, shatter-resistant thermoplastic lens
Protective aluminum roll cage
Overall dimensions: 10-3/4" high x 7" diameter; Weight: 1.75 lbs.

Tooth Savior All-Natural Tooth Soap

4 people recommended this item

Description

OK, this stuff looks REALLY weird (even gross?), but it is honestly one of the most amazing natural products I have ever tried. I have the most awfully sensitive teeth. I haven't bee able to bite into chocolate, dried fruits, and other sugary or very cold items for years, because my dentist says I have almost no enamel left on my teeth. I was told to use Sensodyne and a fluoride rinse for the rest of my life... but we are all becoming aware of some of the dangers of fluoride. Even Sensodyne couldn't get rid of my sensitivity, just hold it at bay.

Within 3 days of using this tooth soap, my sensitivity was all but gone. I cannot explain it, and am in total shock! This stuff is amazing! Additionally, my mouth feels cleaner than it has in a long time each time I brush. The taste is not fantastic, but it's OK, and the results make up for it.

So how do you use the tooth soap? You take on tiny shred, bite into it with your molars so it sticks to them, and then brush, brush, brush, until the soap is gone. It will foam up quite a bit, all from one tiny shred. The initial price is somewhat high, but will last you forever. I asked for a sample size, and it lasted my over two months.

I went to the dentist recently, and I had the best check-up I've had in years. My minor gingivitis was gone, I had almost no tartar on my teeth, and my dentist did not have to use the Dentin Block (to prevent pain from sensitivity as he cleaned). I felt great about going to the dentist- this stuff is awesome!!

Eco-Friendly Corn Resin PLA Reusable Water Bottle with Carbon Filter

First to recommend

3 people recommended this item

Description

A water bottle made from CORN!! We are getting away from petroleum-based plastics, and this bottle proves it.

Finally, a drinking water bottle that makes sense on multiple levels. There are numerous environmental concerns that this bottle addresses:

1. Made from corn resin (also known as polylactic acid or PLA), unlike regular PET plastic, which is made from petroleum, this new plastic helps reduce our dependency on oil, and also helps reduce pollution produced during manufacture.

2. This bottle comes with its own carbon-based filter, unlike SIGG bottles or the like, and so it can be filled with regular tap water and you get to drink FILTERED water. Cool!

3. It can be reused up to 90 times, reducing waste, and then can be tossed guilt-free, or even recycled through special PLA recycling programs. Replacing it every so often helps eliminate the possibility of bacteria build-up in your bottle.

I just love this bottle!! Check it out!!

Mellow Monk Sustainably-Grown Green Tea from Japan: Monk's Choice

First to recommend

Description

I lived in Japan for three years, and this tea reminds me so much of sitting on my tatami mat on a quiet morning, slowy sipping tea as my day unfolded. It is truly authentic, grown by small family farmers in the Kyushu region of Japan. The tea is sustainably grown in Japan, certified by the equivalent of an organic association, which commends growers that farm in an ecologically sensitive manner.

This tea is absolutely delicious, and is the everyday tea of Japan. If you enjoy truly authentic green tea, then you will love Monk's Choice tea.

Glee All-Natural Chewing Gum Variety Pack

First to recommend

Description

These cute little packets of chewing gum are all-natural, made from chicle (the sap of the Sapodilla tree). Harvesting chicle helps preserve the rainforest, too, because it means they won't cut down the Sapodilla trees for lumber. This really is gum with a purpose!
