The Metropolitan Museum of Art - Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy - May 7 - September 1, 2008

Description
Whether you worshiped Wonder Woman, harbored a secret wish to become Cat Woman or saw yourself as the woman-behind-the-man like Lois Lane, we had at least a handful of female Superheroes in modern lore and many more in ancient lore, including Nike and Athena to fuel our girlhood fantasies. So, now that women have the freedom to dress to please themselves, it makes sense that fashion designers would lead the charge towards bigger, bolder and more powerful sartorial statements. This upcoming Met exhibition gives its full attention to Amazonian creations, including designers such as Gareth Pugh, Thierry Mugler and Bernhard Willhelm. Will Victory Ford be there ?

First to recommend
Description
Original works by Ann Lindgren are available for purchase at hus living in Manhattan. Colorful graffiti-style paintings are her signature style; each painting is provocatively named and some include Ann's own handwriting. An investment, to be sure, but one you and your walls may enjoy for years to come.

Peabody Essex Museum: Wedded Bliss, The Marriage of Art and Ceremony - April 26 - September 14, 2008

Description
I have always associated April, May and June with brides and bouquets. Clearly, I am not alone for the PEM has devoted an even longer season to the art and fashion of weddings, including works both worn and eaten. Salem, Massachusetts boasts several wonderful museums, but this exhibit may be the one that entices you to finally make the trip.

Andy Biggs: Africa in Black and White
First to recommend
Description
Offering both prints of his own photography and photo safaris, Andy Biggs invites you to see the world from a different perspective. Given my love of black and white photography, it is no surprise to me that I was drawn to this collection of photos. The zebras are my favorite, but the collection includes 33 stunning images.

west elm: "reminiscence" by Sarah Kay Anderson

Description
An otherwise stark background creates a stunning backdrop for a lone bloom, seemingly lost or forgotten. The photo, as its title suggests, generates a feeling of longing for something intangible and transient. Like spring itself.

Although this looks like a gallery-worthy photograph, it is actually a digitally screened silk scarf. The original photograph is the work of Mena Suvari, who is a talented artist as well as an actor. A limited edition work, the sale of which will benefit the National Resource Defense Council.

Sophisticated art for children
First to recommend
Description
Kids are generally as aware, if not more aware, of their surroundings as adults. So it is perplexing that it has taken so long for good kids' art to jump out of their books and on to their bedroom walls. "A is for Art" provides fun and trendy artwork in the form of original murals, personalized figures, and illustrations on canvas. Not kid-created art, but definitely kid-worthy. Rescued books form the foundation for these handmade houses, which are then decoupaged to give them new life. Choose from among 4 different themes: butterflies, fairy tales, song birds, or bird field guide. Each one is made to order, and, so, a one-of-a-kind treasure.
