All I have to say is --- Pick up sticks.

Alessi felt that the construction method introduced with the "Blow Up" family of products - a highly successful invention of the Italian-Brazilian brothers - would lend itself well to a small furniture item such as this coffee table.

Based on the original artifact and in cooperation with the Eames Family, Vitra is now producing the first series of this figure.

Campeachy Chair

First to recommend

Description

This is a stunning chair with quite a history...

"It took Thomas Jefferson many letters and more than ten years to get a Campeachy chair sent from New Orleans. (The first one was lost in a shipwreck.) Once he finally recieved his chair in 1819, he had several copies made. This reproduction is based on a copy crafted by plantation joiner John Hemings, which is now on display in Monticello's parlor.

Made of mahogany, it has the same X-shaped base, curvy arms and distinctive top rail. What makes the Campeachy chair so wonderfully comfortable is the sling seat of reinforced leather. The mahogany for the original chairs made in New Orleans came from the Mexican provence of Campeche, hence the curious name. 39" h x 27"w x 24" d. Made to order in the USA from imported wood.

Blow Up Flower Vase by Fratelli Campana from Alessi. Italian Design.

First to recommend

Description

The first items of the "Blow Up" family, whose production was launched in 2004, registered an immediate international success. They brought a wave of fresh air into our domestic landscape, sometimes almost too rooted in their form/function ratio. Their method of construction is reminiscent of the forms of recycling typical of urban conglomerates in the third world, but this is done poetically, skillfully respecting the basic requirements of the relevant objects.

Designer: Fratelli Campana

Material(s): 18/10 mirror-polished stainless steel and glass

Dimensions: H 13.2" Dia 7.3" (via zwello.com)
