Eames Children's Elephant by Charles and Ray Eames

Almost no other animal enjoys such popularity as the Eames Elephant Chair. Admired for its majestic size and loved for its proverbial good humor, it is part of our everyday experience as a child's cuddly toy, a storybook character and a majestic creature. Charles and Ray Eames also succumbed to their charms and in 1945 designed a toy elephant made of plywood. However, it never made it into mass production. The Eames Elephant is now available for the first time in a plastic version for those it was originally intended for: children. Whether used indoors or outdoors, or as a decorative item in a child's room - this friendly-looking animal with its distinctive, over-sized ears is bound to bring cheer and enjoyment to both a child's and parent's heart.

This Barn Owl is whimsical (which isn't usually a quality I admire), cool-looking and and obviously well-crafted. It instantly struck me when I saw it. It seems actually possess a life of its own.

I like this surreal portrait. It's brooding background. The rabbit-headed girl. The perched crow and slightly menacing cat, and the question of the dropped mask in the foreground. Love Elephant Ears but need something a bit more manageable for the house or for that shady spot? This dwarf variety is the answer! 'Black Velvet' offers large leaves of deep green to pure black with bright silver veins and purple undersides. Less than a foot high and not much wider, it makes a great statement indoors or out!

These oval leaves emerge dark green, but deepen to black within just a few weeks. The edges turn under slightly, giving them a fuller, puffy look that adds depth to the plant. Their silver veins nearly glow, neatly bisecting every leaf for a formal look. And evey now and again you'll catch a glimpse of the bright purple reverse.

Just 8 to 10 inches high and 12 to 18 inches wide, this is a nice container choice for indoors or out. It fares best in indirect light, such as you'd find from a north-facing window. Rotate it every few weeks to make sure that all sides get exposed to light. Or, if you want to grow it outside, just pot it up and set it into any shady spot. (via parkseed.com)
