For Emma, Forever Ago - Bon Iver (CD)

Description

It's becoming increasingly obvious that this is my favorite album of the year. It's a completely un-expecting little folk album that for some reason draws you in.

Girl Talk - Feed the Animals

4 people recommended this item

Description

The newest album from Girl Talk, the moniker of Gregg Gillis pulls an "In Rainbows" and allows listeners to pay whatever they want for the album. I guess it's only fitting. You know, because he blatantly "samples" everybody's music, without paying loyalties. Regardless of your thoughts on his process, this is one of the most fun albums I've heard all year. The highlight comes at the end of track six when he mixes Yael Naim's "New Soul" (the song from the Apple commercial) with some Eminem song telling you to "get buzz, get drunk, get crunk..."

It's a fusion of all genres of music, creating some weird, pseudo club music that nearly anyone can enjoy.

The Evangelicals: The Evening Descends

First to recommend

Description

Hailing from small town Oklahoma, The Evangelicals have gained national status on the independent music scene. Not to mention, they just got back from a European tour and pulled some opening gigs for Conor Oberst (the Bright Eyes frontman). It really is wondrous that three people can make such complex music.

Fleet Foxes

Description

Who put the fleet in Fleet Foxes?

It doesn't matter. Good, no-nonsense music from a band currently receiving a lot of ink. And for good reason.

Get 'em.

TV on the Radio - Dear Science

Description

More than likely, you'll love this album. The experimental rock band has, no doubt, outdone themselves this time. It's an intriguing, but also interesting listen. However, I really don't understand why everyone is giving it so much love? I mean, I love it. But, I can think of 10 albums just as good.

Welcome To The Welcome Wagon

First to recommend

Description

I know it sounds suspect, but this Presbyterian Pastor and his wife (known as Welcome Wagon) have just put out one of my favorite albums of the year. Of course, it was recorded, produced and arranged by Sufjan Stevens. So, I'm sure that had something to do with it.

It's almost becoming a moot point to recommend this album. However, I had to put my stamp of approval on it. Here it is, I love this album. It's perfect for the summer!

Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band

Description

The Bright Eyes front man tries his luck on his own. With this self titled album, he attempts to segue his cult status among emo/indie kids from the Bright Eyes to, well, just him. It's really not that big of a surprise, considering he's notoriously known for is arrogance and basic lack or relevance for anything or any one. I'll put it like this, it sure isn't "I'm wide awake, it's morning." However, it's definitely worth a listen for any of those who enjoy the laid-back folky sound.
