Foxgloves - Lee Valley Tools

First to recommend

Description

I'm pretty sick of the bulky garden gloves that I got for $2.00 at The Dollar Store. They were most certainly NOT a deal. I'm going to try out a pair of these. They are much more of what I am looking for in a garden glove.

Product Description:

These gloves are designed to deliver a nearly bare-handed sensitivity while protectin hands from sun, soil and abrasion. An "hourglass fourchette" (normally found in high-end dress gloves) and stretch nylon LYCRA combine to create an extremely comfortable glove that offers superior fit and dexterity. The tight knit of the fabric keeps soil out and hands and nails clean. Silicone dots on the palm and inside fingers provide enhanced grip, while a long cuff protects the wrist.

Machine washable, these gloves are available in three sizes. If you prefer to garden unemcumbered by work gloves, yet want to protect your hands from the elements. These gloves are an excellent solution.

Sizes: Small, Medium and Large

Black Hollyhock (Alcea rosea nigra)

First to recommend

Description

Black Hollyhock was described as early as 1629 by John Parkinson, as being "of a darke red like black blood," as apt description for the large single flowers that grace this plant in June and July.

I'm choosing this gothy-looking biennial to grace my garden this year as part of my tendency towards antique plants, and things of darker hue. I think it will look stunning next to more brightly colored flowers and shrubs. (via monticellostore.stores.yahoo.net)

Bonsai Boy of New York grows beautiful, healthy bonsai. I highly recommend buying your first or any bonsai from them. You can even speak to their Master Gardener. They are extremely helpful and as a return customer you get 10% off each order. Just call and let them know who you are. It doesn't matter what you're buying. Anyway, about the Olive Bonsai:

Also known as Common Olive or European Olive. Silvery leaves and white bark make this a very interesting looking tree. This unique tree produces the edible olive that is also used to make olive oil. Transplants best in summer. Tolerates poor soil, heat, drought and loves the sun. Excellent for indoors.
