About this list:

Toys do not discriminate. They know not how young or old you are. They won't even divulge your deepest, darkest secrets. All they really want is to get off the shelf and into the hands of someone who wants to play. So, go ahead: pick up a toy or game that sparks your imagination . . . or one that used to not so very long ago. Here are a few I have recently stumbled upon.

Qualifications:

I am just a little girl in a big girl outfit.

Amazon: Sesame Street - 40 Years of Sunny Days

First to recommend

Description

As hard as it is to believe that it has been nearly ten years since the passing of puppeteer (and Muppet creator) Jim Henson, it is even harder to grasp that this PBS show has now been going strong for 40 years. While the DVD set will be a delightful romp down memory lane for some, for others (who cannot remember a time before Elmo) it will be a Muppet-filled font of new material. Only a Grouch or a Grinch would shun such a wealth of sunny days. (via Time Out New York Kids)

Neiman Marcus: Customized Cupcake Car

Description

weirdest item I've seen for the holiday season yet is this $25,000 customizable cupcake car in the Neiman Marcus Christmas catalog.
designed by Lisa Pongrace , it has a 24 volt electric motor and a top speed of 7mph. Get in in your choice of flavors, eh...colors.

Amazon: The Brat Pack Collection - Movies and Music Collection - Universal Studios Home Entertainment

First to recommend

Description

No one should go through middle school or high school - or life for that matter - without the help of writer/producer/director John Hughes. This collection is only the tip of Hughes' creative iceberg, but it is well worth its weight in free therapy. Supplement with liberal doses of "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," "Pretty in Pink" and "Some Kind of Wonderful."

Barnes and Noble: The Naked Roommate 2010 College Survival Planner

First to recommend

Description

Offering advice on the many ethical and etiquette dilemmas imposed by space-sharing (including an essay specific to the Thanksgiving holiday), this calendar is a friend, diary and record book all conveniently combined into one spiral-bound book. Ironically, this is the one item you will most likely never want to share.

Fortune Fish: Fortune Telling Miracle Fish

First to recommend

Description

Place one of these flopping red fish in the palm of your hand to get a life forecast. Although your body temperature may have something to do with the outcome, the concept is fun, playful and guaranteed to generate conversation. And for less than twenty US dollars, you can get 125 of these fun fins to pass around at your next gathering. (via Daily Candy)

Amazon: Knucklehead - Tall Tales and Almost True Stories of Growing up Scieszka by Jon Scieszka

First to recommend

Description

I have one sister. We were born so close together, it often seemed as though we had a single brain. Which doesn't adequately explain any of our fabulous misadventures growing up. Jon Scieszka (author of "The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales") has a really good excuse: five brothers. Quite generously and with great humor, he shares much of his childhood guts and glory in this novella. Designed for ages 9 to 12, this scrapbook/book will appeal to much wider audience.

Description

So very ugly, he is absolutely adorable. And requires no feeding, grooming or entertainment . . . although he will provide plenty of unconditional love. Also the ideal bedtime companion for anyone who is afraid of things that go bump in the night. Who would dare approach you when you are so well guarded by a big, red Uglydog ? Good giggle gifting.
