One of the most amazing debut records of all time! Chrissie Hynde shows that she can keep up with and even surpass the boys on this one! Precious and Tattooed Love Boys are two of my fav. songs on this (I also adore the video for Tattooed Love Boys). "A good time is guaranteed for one and all with tattoos..."

How I love this CD by an original maven, Patti Smith. The opening lines to Gloria (those who know the song, know what I mean, I won't post them here as I'm reviewing great music, not trying to start controversy) will just blow you away and she does not let up through the entire CD! Let's not forget another one of my heroes Lenny Kaye plays on this CD too (not only is he a great musician, but he has done a ton along with Little Steven for garage rock)!

Urban Desire - Genya Ravan
First to recommend
Description
If you don't know who Genya Ravan your are missing out. She is a rock and roll pioneer with her group, Goldie and Gingerbreads. If you like Joan Jett, Chrissie Hynde, etc. you will adore Genya. She is a true cool rock and roll chick. She is also currently a DJ on Little Steven's Underground Garage on Sirius Satellite Radio. Her show Chicks and Broads is on the first Friday of ever month (10:00 p.m. ET). Her other show, Goldie's Garage is on the third Friday of the month (12:00 p.m. ET). If you are not familiar with Genya's music you really need to be. Oh, did I mention she is also a pioneering record producer, she produced the first CD by the Dead Boys, Young, Loud and Snotty. If you love Jimmy Miller era Stones, the Faces, the Chesterfield Kings, etc. you cannot afford to be without this CD.

Dap Dippin with Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings

Description
If you love 60's Soul in the vein of Stax Records then you will absolutely be in love with this CD! This CD has to be heard to be believed. The most amazing funky version of Janet Jackson's "What Have You Done for Me Lately" has to be heard to be believed! Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings are one of the premier artists on Daptone Records. Think of Daptone as a modern day Stax. They say if you like one artist on their label you will more then likely like most of the artists. This amazing CD is my first introduction to Daptone Records and what an introduction it is! Sharon Jones has such an amazing, funky soulful voice, you simply have to hear it. And believe it or not, if you think you have never heard of the Dap Kings you more than likely have heard them. They play on I believe 7 or 8 tracks on Amy Winehouse's phenomenal CD, Back to Black (and yes, they absolutely do play on my fav. track Rehab).
Do yourself the best favor you can this year and check out Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. And please let me know once you do how much you love them! You seriously will not be sorry and cannot go wrong with this CD. I can't tell you how much I adore it!!

Rockferry - Duffy

Description
Duffy is going to be the next big thing. Once you hear her you will know what I mean. If you are a fan of soul music, especially that wonderful British 60's soul, than you need this CD by Duffy! She is amazing. She has been compared to Dusty Springfield, and while I can see that she has her own unique sound. She grew up in Wales out in the country and did not even listen to the radio. She watched old Ready, Steady, Go videos of her parents, with bands on it like the Stones, etc. She did not have anyone to influence her as to what was or wasn't cool. She just determined for herself without outside influence what she liked. This CD isn't going to be released in the US until May 13. However, you don't have to wait and can order right now from Amazon UK. What are you waiting for?

Fluff 'n' Fold: The Best of the Launderettes
First to recommend
Description
I'm not a huge fan of girl bands.Chrissie Hynde (technically not a band), Joan Jett, the Donna's and Sahara Hot Nights are however on my exception list as they all rock hard. Add Oslo's the Launderettes to this list. They have fun catchy songs that rock! I especially love the song, "What Would Joan Jett Do?". Once you hear it, it will stick in your head (in a good way). Also a perfect gift for the music lover on your gift list!

Fit to Be Tied - Great Hits by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts

Description
How does Madonna get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Joan Jett just gets to play during the induction ceremony. Well, that is what happened this year (2008). I have nothing against Madonna, but Rock and Roll she isn't. If you want a woman who just rocks her ass of and is the embodiment of rock and roll it is Joan Jett!

Description
I love this CD! Mary J. is such an inspiration. You can really relate to all of her trials and tribulations and she always keeps it real! A few of my favorite tracks are the Dr. Dre produced Family Affair, No More Drama and Where I've Been.

The Best of Siouxsie & Banshees - Siouxsie & Banshees
First to recommend
Description
What a style icon Siouxsie is! I know many people think of Madonna as breaking barriers and being cutting edge, but Siouxsie was way ahead of Madonna. Siouxsie hair, makeup, clothing, etc. definitely were not part of the norm. What they were, were way ahead of their time. She gave those who did not fit the blond and beautiful stereotype something to aspire to and a great style role model!
Now on to the music, Sorry, but the above first had to be said! Their music was just wonderful and groundbreaking. This CD is a great overview.
