Description

I have a theory that somebody gave Diplo a list of a couple dozen songs that he couldn't pull together into a single modern album, especially since many of them are not good music by today's standards. He took the challenge and pulled it off, though you'll have to let the album play for a while to really appreciate it.

Etymotic Earphones

I now work in an environment that can get pretty noisy with the thump of the bass in the music from a retail store downstairs, up to 3 street performers at a time on the street out the window, and a dozen co-workers occasionally in lively discussions in our large shared office with brick walls. It's a fun environment, but sub-optimal for concentrated software development.

I surgically insert my Etymotic earphones (yes, it's a procedure) and I am suddenly all alone in absolute silence except for the pure sound of the Canadian Brass and English Chamber Orchestra, or Nora Jones, or Orbital, or Fatboy Slim, or ...

I'm still not able to use the Etymotics for long periods of time because of the pressure in my ear canal, but I'm getting used to them and working up to it. (via joe)

Ticket to Ride

Description

Having seen that Ticket to Ride was recommended by several people who like Settlers of Catan, I decided to purchase it for my son for Christmas since he love Settlers of Catan. Ticket to Ride was a perfect game for us. It's much simpler to set up and learn than Settlers and the play moves much more quickly. You don't know who's going to win until the end (unlike Settlers). Other than that, it's nothing like Settlers of Catan except that it does involve building things on the board by playing cards that you have accumulated.

I hadn't worn a watch in years, but after discovering this watch on ThisNext, I had to break my own rule. I love the simple, clean, bold look. It reminds me of my favorite $15 black on white Timex that I owned decades ago, but this one adds an interesting red second hand and costs ten times as much. (via loft3)

Apparently I'm the only person who did not get this book as a kid, but thanks to ThisNext, my daughter enjoys hearing these poems read to her. I try to stick to just one a night so we can make it last.

Dyson Root 6 DC16 Handheld Vacuum Cleaner

Description

This has got to be one of the most impressive hand tools of any category, at least as far as looks go. And, though you may be disappointed to learn it cannot atomize steel, it does do a great job of vacuuming as you would expect from any product with the name Dyson on it. It's somewhat larger and heavier than the standard dirt devil and dust buster toys, but when you pull the trigger, feel the torq, and see the green and red LEDs glowing, you know you're in charge and that mess is history.

Description

I've tried the litchi (lychee), peach, and kiwi flavors and the Kiwi is my favorite. The individual wrapping for each piece makes it seem like a big deal to eat 2-3 of them which makes the package last longer.
