The Christmas Carol Outdoor Light and Sound Show.
WAS 129.95 NOW 54.95

This simple electronic device transforms your exterior holiday lights into a synchronized-animated spectacle precisely matched to the rhythm and music of 20 pre-programmed Christmas carols played through the built-in speaker. Each of the six outlets can power up to two strands of C-type bulbs or three strands of mini (T1 3/4") or LED lights, in addition to other lighted displays. Special circuitry turns the different light systems off and on in perfect synchronization as the speaker plays traditional tunes such as Jingle Bells and Deck the Halls, with 10 carols in a traditional style and 10 in a modern holiday style, creating a flashing kaleidoscopic choreography of illumination an d sound. Each catalog of 10 carols plays in a random order, or specific carols can be selected at the touch of a button. The weatherproof device withstands the rigors of winter, and has built-in volume control and a transparent cover to protect light plug connections. Mounts to the side of your house or on its ground stake, and plugs into AC. Can also be used indoors.

Description

I love these but the price? Oh HELL no! A few years ago I actually made a few dozen of these- both in the sizes pictures and larger- to hang in a large event space for a holiday festival. And let me tell ya, I did a few dozen for a fraction of this price.

How? I'll rec the link in a moment but just in case you don't find it: http://barnardltd.com/product.jsp?prodId=1878&catId=628

What you'll find there are big balls. Big white styrofoam balls up to 30" in diameter (the bigger ones come in halves you just glue together). Spray paint them in different colors (put a coat of something on underneath or a lot of the paint will be absorbed by the foam) and then use stencils (ie snowflakes) or a loose measuring tape (for stripes) to sketch your pattern. Then spray within the desired design with a strong 3M-like spray epoxy and sprinkle glitter (order online by bulk- very cheap... and "holographic" glitter is the best at catching the twinkling lights) thickly. Shake off the excess and ta da! Congrats! You have fancy balls!

Why am I telling you about big, white balls? Well, check out how much a store charges for their version of giant outdoor Christmas ornaments and consider doing it yourself instead.

p.s. Don't forget to spray them with sealant if they're going outside when finished. You don't want soggy balls. (via Click Here for the Expensive Version)

Whether decorating your own home for the holidays or an office or social event, it's better to invest in items that can be reused year after year instead of buying throw-away things at your local party store.

Use this (gently!) in lieu of traditional ribbon on a holiday gift for something unique...

I love the disco ball effect the twinkling lights have on mirrored garland. It makes the whole room sparkle. Great price here, too...

6ft Antique Multicolor Glass Ball Garland

Description

I've scooped up a few artificial trees over the years at post-XMas sales. Instead of letting them just sit in the garage, I've taken to decorating a tree in each of the kids' rooms. Not only does it help saturate the house with holiday warmth, but it led to yet another tradition- collecting individual ornaments for each of them that represent what they were "into" that particular year- ie hobbies, music, etc. Those will be a great keepsake when they have homes of their own.

This garland would be so cute on a little girl's tree, don't you think?

For a lovely way to wrap a present, try opting for stashing items in a natural woven basket instead of a traditional box. and then use a garland like this in lieu of ribbon....

Sundance:
"Our little cotton birdies have brass bells for beaks, glass beads at the end of their tails. The flock of 30 gathers among alternating colors of glass beads. Exclusive. Imported. Birds measure 1-1/2"W; garland is 43-1/4"L."
