Me? Microphobic? - a list by Kristine
Options for This Page
About this list:
God has a funny way of teaching me little lessons. I spent my entire life making fun of our germ-phobic culture... Then I got dogs. They carry some ewy stuff - microscopic things that bite. So I spent a year visiting vets and doctors. And a year researching about medicines and health products. I no longer make fun of germs or bugs, or even delusional people who think they have bugs. It's not funny. I hope someone will benefit from my discoveries.

tea tree oil face mask

Description
Clay-based mask cleans and refreshes skin. Tea tree oil is supposed to help reduce blemishes. I like it because it does not leave face oily. (via grenade fishing)

paul mitchell tea tree + lemon sage hair care

Description
I was surprised to find tea tree oil products available under the Paul Mitchell brand. I like their product. One benefit I think is great with tea tree oil is the gender neutral scent. For an essential oil, it does not offend the dudes. Less clutter in the shower. That's a good thing. (via grenade fishing)

bumble and bumble tea tree oil shampoo

Description
It's really called "Tonic" but it's the line that has tea tree oil (which I've recently become obsessed with). It is not organic, but does carry a bit of natural essential oils and ingredients. I used it for the first time last week and loved it. The scent is not overwhelmingly tea tree oil, which for me is good. I think the lemongrass counters it a bit. Lathers well. Hair feels great after and so does scalp.

I can't help it. I let my dogs kiss me. As we all know, that's a no-no. Even the cleanest dogs are dirty... germs, mites, bugs. Yuck. Tea tree oil is my solution. It has natural anti-bacterial benefits, and it is known to combat mites too (and also mosquitos). This facial wash is very gentle on my skin. (via grenade fishing)

Dr. Bronner - Castile Soap Peppermint
25 people recommended this item
Description
I recently discovered this all-purpose soap at my local organic store. It's awesome. I love it that you can use it for hair, body, hands... Makes traveling a lot easier. It also contains hemp, which concerns some of my friends in terms of passing customs when traveling abroad. I don't think this bit of hemp is going to set of any alarms, but I suppose I wouldn't know...
Can be used on pets (so they claim, but I haven't tried). Organic and not tested on animals. Thumbs up.

Veterinary Parasitology

Description
One of my best "Oh Sh**, what have I done..." act was when I bought a USB microscope (I've recommended it here). You can see all sorts of gnarly stuff... However, you have no idea what the hell you are looking at. Everything looks like aliens. You end up on Google for months looking at images from various sites, and you end up reading about silly things you do not need to know about. It is a time killer. But very interesting. I recommend saving yourself time and frustration by buying this book. Much easier to figure out what's what, if you are interested in looking at parasites, that is.

Permethrin 10% Repellent Spray 32oz
First to recommend
Description
I was a bit surprised this was available for anyone. 10% permethrin is quite a bit of permethrin... It will definitely kill the pests that bother your pets and you... ie. chiggers, fleas, mange, etc. We had a chiggers issue in our yard. We used a permethrin based spray and it worked. It also is 'pretty safe' when in contact with human skin, which is always reassuring to know. (pretty safe means as safe as it can get with pesticide...)

Thieves Household Cleaner

Description
Thieves is a natural and healthy catch-all product that can serve as a replacement for at least a half-dozen toxic cleansers you may currently have in your house. Because I had bad allergic reactions to "something" (still trying to figure out what), I had to go through lots of cleaning products and medication... After a year of research and references, I now have a list of the best natural products with either antibacterial, antiviral and antimicrobial products out there. It's too bad sometimes we have to learn the hard way. I sure did. I am glad I can share my knowledge with others.

Description
I'm compulsive about checking email. My compulsiveness goes to new levels when I get a mosquito bite. I can't stop scratching it even though I know no good comes of it. So I try to preempt the scratching by not getting bit.

live garden predators

Description
I don't actually have aphids but I've always wanted to release a batch of ladybugs in the garden just because. It would be an awesome Eric Carsle happening... a yard full of grouchy ladybugs.
