How To Make Your Little Sibling Cooler - a list by Andrea
Options for This Page
About this list:
Right off the bat, let me point out that yes, there are some hopeless cases in the cool department. Some kids are destined for coolness, and some of them are just, well, not. That said, there are ways you can help steer them in the right direction: my little cousin, for example, listens to talk radio instead of music - besides a little Hillary Duff here and there. For her birthday, I gave her "Graceland" and "Bayou Country", and next year she's getting "Sticky Fingers".
Qualifications:
I am a little sibling, and I am cool.

Schwabach Chalk

Description
Besides the awesome turquoise box, Drei Stern ("Three Star) chalk, made in a small German city near Nuremberg, has the questionable benefit of an awkward Star of David logo!

Tin "Steam Boat"
First to recommend
Description
This tin boat runs on the steam produced by a small candle placed in the holder. It reminds me of those old movies you see where a kid in Central Park is playing with a beautiful wooden sailboat he bought at a dime store, and instead of thinking about whether George Peppard is about to get killed by a private dick over his illicit affair with the highly underrated Patricia Neal, you're thinking - ten cents? For that? That thing is awesome! Why don't they make those anymore?

The Complete Calvin and Hobbes

Description
Bill Waterson's genius creation, Calvin & Hobbes is neck-and-neck with Tintin as my favorite comic strip of all time. Calvin is a smart-ass kid with a stuffed tiger as his best friend, and a knack for driving his parents insane; in one strip, for example, his mom finds him hammering nails into the coffee table. "What are you doing to the coffee table?!" she screams, to which he replies: "Is this some sort of trick question, or what?" For precocious kids with overactive imaginations.

The Hobbit: Cartoon

Description
Pre-Peter King, the Hobbit's only life on screen was as a poorly animated cartoon character with a 70's folk soundtrack. Yet somehow, it managed to be beautifully drawn, wonderfully creative, and despite the aforementioned trilogy, this is still what comes to mind when I imagine Bilbo Baggins. Which is often.

Clarissa Explains It All - Season One

Description
Clarissa is the awesomest role model for a girl. She wears weird-ass outfits, designs awesome video games, and has a pet alligator - how did sweet characters like Clarissa evolve into like, Zoe 101? The plotlines generally revolve around Clarissa's ongoing battles with her little brother Ferguson "Ferg Breath", hijinks with her best friend Sam who climbs in her window with a ladder. Anyway - I grew up on Clarissa, and she is the sickest.

Description
The most beautiful Disney cartoon feature ever made - a classic fairy tale with almost no changes made to the plot and the original aesthetic, besides the three charming fairies, Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather. Maleficent, the evil stepmother, truly terrified me as a child, but it was worth it.
