Detox Diary - a list by zoesah

About this list:
The essentials for a detoxification diet (nothing to do with starving... I ate plenty!) A couple months ago I decided to detoxifiy my body of all of the processed foods ~ and boy did it have good results! Because I focused on what I putting into my body instead of what my body was taking off... it actually allowed my body to shed unnecessary weight and keep it off. Turns out... I have a minor reaction to milk... thus the need to detox to see how things actually affect your body!

Detox: The Process of Cleansing and Restoration: Sara Rose
First to recommend
Description
This was an inexpensive book that really motivated me and guided me through a 30 day detox meal plan. I was fond of some of the recipes and not so fond of others, but it provides enough information to allow you to understand the process. I also appreciated the emphasis on skin care and relaxation.

Lemons are Not Just for Lemonade: 31 Uses for Lemons and Lemon Juice
First to recommend
Description
Yes... lemons! I started out each day drinking a cup of warm water with juice of 1/2 a lemon. It was much tastier than I expected.
By them by the bag as there are many uses for the fruit.
*** The poor fruits and vegetables of the world! They cannot reinvent themselves like processed foods... so marketing is tricky. Good thing you can ALWAYS count on them!

KIND Snacks Healthy Snacks made with whole nuts & dried fruits

Description
This is the website for the company. It appears they have 10 "kinds" of bars, but my store only has 2 or 3 (I don't know because I am only obsessed with the next recommendation!)
Gluten-free, wheat-free, dairy-free and preservative-free ~ but the taste will knock your socks off! (A few bars are not dairy-free). The main reason it's part of my detox plan? No refined sugar! It's sweetened mainly with honey and contain only nuts, fruits and berries. *no, this isn't necessarily low in fat and calories, but it's a quality food, showing me that if we eat what we're meant to eat ~~ that provided by the earth, not a machine ~~ our bodies will reward us with good health.

KIND Bar Fruit & Nut Delight, 1.4-Ounce Bars

Description
My... *gasp*.... favorite! Introduce this to your taste buds and they will be a-d-d-c-t-i-c-t-e-d! YUMMMM!!
This was an important find while on my detox. I already ate nuts and seeds and dried fruits, but this combined them in a way that changed things up... sweetened with honey! Yes, honey is allowed, but no refined sugars. And look, for those of you scared to allow this sugar... I lost a deal of weight using honey every single day!
See the other recommendation for the company's website. There are 10 bars to choose from, though my local store only has 2 or 3.
Gluten-free, wheat-free, dairy-free, preservative-free!

Bob's Red Mill Old Country Style Muesli, 40-Ounce Packages
First to recommend
Description
I usually make my own, but when it gets tiring I get this brand of muesli. Never had it before my detox and now I can't imagine living without it (though I am LOVE oatmeal and nuts). Basically what you want is a combo of grain (I grind my oatmeal up for the mix), nuts and seeds (almonds, brazil nuts, filberts), raisins, dried fruit (fig, apricot, peaches - unsulfured) and sunflower seeds. Add some Vanilla Soy Milk (Silk) and let sit while you do your hair or makeup.
Yes, it is not a cheap breakfast, but boy does it start you out right.
And though this comes in a plastic bag, it must to keep fresh. It's still less than other commercial cereals and you'll use less if you make it yourself from the healthfood store bulk bins!

Silk Soymilk

Description
Ok, so I was so scared to try a non-cow milk! But for dedication to my detoxification, I did it and... oh... I haven't gone back! It is quite delicious. Granted, I don't drink milk by the glass full, but I do use it in smoothies and cereal. This is the tastiest stuff, especially on muesli.
Not to mention, while on my detox, I realized that I must have some minor reaction to milk, as now I am aware of the mucus and the clearing of the throat each time I consume dairy. I suggest everyone give up dairy for a week or two just so they can see how it actually affects them. Most don't even know!

REI Balance Gym Bag

Description
In my quest of finding a more compact, but diverse gym bag ~ this one MAY be the winner. It separates dirtly clothes from clean and shoes ~ my main concerns. Plus it will fit in the narrow locker.
Bonus: Recycled polyester (plastic bottles)

Good Earth Teas - Category - Green Teas

Description
By far my FAVORITE green tea. I just didn't click with the bland green, but this has that little extra something that makes it lovable! I haven't tried others, but can't get myself to by anything but the LemonGrass. I can buy this in my local grocery store, so look there first.
No added sugar, artificial sweeteners or preservatives. I do refrigerate the old tea bags and put them over my eyes! Aahhh...
The carton is made of 100% recycled content (60% post-consumer).
The tea bags are unbleached.
The bags do come individually wrapped and cannot be recycled.
