The Green Book

8 people recommended this item

Description

Go green! Environmental matters get the star treatment in The Green Book. Authors Elizabeth Rogers and Thomas Kostigen address the fact that Americans endanger the balance of the ecosystem by the amount of waste we produce, the amount of water we use and the amount of energy we consume. Celebrities, including Robert Redford, Ellen DeGeneres, Jennifer Aniston, Faith Hill and Dale Earnhardt Jr., contribute observations and suggestions for living green. In the hope that the glamour of the A-list will make discussion of environmental challenges more palpable, Rogers and Kostigen establish 12 aspects of our habitat, such as home, work, and school, and suggest better lifestyle choices in each arena. Small adjustments in the way we consume and dispose of resources add up to significant and positive environmental effects. Illustrating the results of green actions with descriptive rather than numerical analyses, Rogers and Kostigen write, for example, that if everyone in the U.S. used one less paper napkin per day, in a year's time we would have saved one billion pounds of landfill waste. This is a truly outstanding resource, and one you won't want to live without. The Green Book offers hope and practical suggestions for a greener future!

This is exactly what the list is about! There are a lot of books out there about saving the earth, but this one incorporates style. The tips are short and sassy and include quite a few mantras you wouldn't expect.

Get them started young. This may be ineffective when they can't actually comprehend words, but as they get older and can understand more and more teach them that green is the way to go.

Easy Green Living, by Renee Loux

I know there are a lot of books about green living but you can never get too much info. There's always something new I discover in these books, and the stuff I know, I can skim over, so it's a win-win situation for myself and the environment.

Think Green!

Description

I didn't have this read to me when I was a kid (of course it didn't exist then either) but my mom was the main driving force for my environmentalism. Now, mom's have it easy and books do all the work.

Greenopia, by Green Media Group

Description

There's a bunch of these green shopping guides by city. I think I already recommended the Los Angeles version (if I didn't, you know now) and it was rather enlightening. It ranked the "greenness" of the places (and explained how it did so) as well as splitting by category. Being green in an urban setting was never so easy.
