Clay Furniture: side table with drawer (green)

2 people recommended this item

Description

This little table is so funky and wobbly looking! It's like the Charlie Brown Christmas Tree -- you really want to root for it. Great personality.

Clay Furniture address the issue of form-giving in industrial design, revealing, literally, the designer's 'hand' in this intimate process, today normally concealed through the use of a computer (but there, none-the-less).

Description

Inspired by the "Cocoon" series of lighting by Tobia Scarpa and Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, 1960-61. You can certainly see the cocoon influence. The bulbs appear to be ready to break out, like a butterfly.

White powder-coated steel frame and injection-molded PMMA candles, sprayed resin with a protective transparent finish, faceted crystal globe

Black Honey curved bowl

2 people recommended this item

Description

Arik Levy used the relatively new process of stereolithography to make this fascinating bowl.

Stereolithography (SLA) is a process of creating "rapid prototypes", allowing one to "print" three-dimensional structures from a digital image. First, a CAD computer model of the object is digitally sliced into very thin layers. Then each digital layer is physically 'drawn' with a laser which fuses together or hardens the chosen material particle by particle. Upon completion, the physical model replicates the CAD computer model to the finest detail.

Hidden vase (tall)

First to recommend

Description

This fanciful vase that appears to be 'hiding' behind multiple tentacles is made through a very high-tech process called Selective Laser Sintering .

Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) is a process of creating "rapid prototypes", allowing one to "print" three-dimensional structures from a CAD computer model. The computer model is sliced into very thin layers, and each layer is created through the use of a laser, which fuses together the chosen material, which is originally in a powder form. After each layer is hardened, it is lowered down one thickness and a new layer of the powdered material is rolled out to be traced on the surface. Upon completion, the physical model replicates the CAD computer model to the finest detail.
