Geek Chic - a list by ASewell

About this list:

Okay, so I don't dress like a runway model, and my t-shirts reference scientific ideas, indie films and comic book characters. There is a style there...*ahem*... Whether it's chic or not, well...that's open to discussion. I guess.

Black romantic leg warmers- Skull button by Corpseknit on Etsy

First to recommend

Description

I love these leg warmers. They aren't typical of what one finds when looking for these accessories. Granted, they are rather goth, but that's part of their appeal. The details are very cool --- little metal skull buttons and black bows at the back of the knee. Very romantic. Perfect for the cooler months. (via etsy.com)

Starry Skull Sweater

Description

A very stylish sweater for the Fall, with my favorite insignia --- a giant skull, this time composed of tiny sequins. I would wear this in a heartbeat --- which more or less goes without saying. (via patriciafield.com)

Dangerous Negro Button Down Shirt

First to recommend

Description

This cracked me up when I saw it! Because I'm a Black woman, I don't have to worry about being stereotypically feared like Black men do. But why not play up the stereotype of "the dangerous negro" by sporting this men's shirt over a t-shirt and jeans. (via patriciafield.com)

Snakeskin Skull Clutch

Description

This faux-snakeskin clutch with a gunmetal rhinestone skull at it's center is perfect for Fall. I don't normally dig on clutches, but this one caught my eye. It has overall dark glam appeal. This rocks as an accessory, and I would carry it anytime of day or night. (via patriciafield.com)

Patricia Field Studded Signature Hoodie

3 people recommended this item

Description

I'm certainly a hoarder of hoodies. What I like about this fairly standard one is the studded mudflap chicks logo on the upper chest. Understated clothing with a hint of glam to shake things up balances things out. This hoodie comes in a variety of colors --- but only comes in youth sizes. (via patriciafield.com)

Big Wave Tee - Dark Blue

First to recommend

Description

This cool hand-silkscreened t-shirt looks suspiciously like the famous woodblock by Katasushika Hokusai, suitably titled "The Great Wave". At any rate, I would sport this shirt in an instant. The monochrome graphic is first rate, and is an awesome homage to a great piece of art. (via shanalogic.com)

Snake-y Scarf

Description

This is a cute scarf that looks kind of like a green snake. You can really scare the crap out of someone who's not paying attention (or just that bright).

Sephora: Lolita Lempicka Fleur de Corail

First to recommend

Description

I adore this fragrance! Hate the bottle --- but after getting a sample of this from Sephora, I had to have the real thing. Coral Flower (Fleur de Corail) is a soft, exotic and inviting scent with dominant notes of Frangapini blossom. Similar to sandalwood.

"This fragrance plays up contrasts. It's as fresh as a breath of fresh air, yet at the same time it's warm and passionate."

It has notes of Grapefruit, Bergamot, Frangipani Blossom, Orchid Vanilla, Amber, Musk, and Driftwood. (via sephora.com)

HaberVision - Bormio Sunglasses - Brown

7 people recommended this item

Description

I am always on the lookout for a pair of stylish frames that suit my round face! The shape of HaberVision's Bormio Sunglasses are a perfect solution to such a dilemna.

Not only does this shape flatter my face shape, but they are shatter-proof and virtually unbreakable. Haber’s combination of virtually unbreakable Trilon™ frames and Carbolite™ high impact lenses make this a great choice for active people. Most probably don't think of gardening as particularly active. I guess compared to skiing or snowboarding it isn't. However, being out in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time demands protection! I just want to look good whether I'm pruning or planting, and have some of the highest quality protection while I'm doing it. Is that too much to ask?? (via www.habervision.com)

Eddie Bauer: Yukon Classic Down Jacket

First to recommend

Description

I bought two jackets this year. They were both down. The first was from the Gap. After about 30 degrees I was cold. I didn't cut the muster, but looked good. I should have done better research on down. Then I went to Eddie Bauer where I don't usually shop to find a better down product. Success! I found a down jacket with a flattering silhoutte but with a more impressive fill. Right off the bat it gave a "Weather Rating" of Very Cold 0 to 20 degrees. There were other products that had even higher ratings. Anyway, lesson learned, and of course, I bought it in black.

Product Description:

Eddie Bauer patented his first down jacket in 1936. And it’s been in our line-up ever since. We build our Yukon jacket using only premium Northern European goose down with 700-fill-power. The higher the fill, the less down it takes to retain heat, so it warms like crazy without extra bulk. The water-repellent and wind-resistant shell feels luxurious, and has a flattering shape with adjustable waist tabs. (via eddiebauer.com)
