Description

I saw this book at a cute little book store in Santa Monica and thought "Learning about 150 of today's greatest designers for only $12.99 ... sign me up" This book is fun and is a good reference material for any fashionista. Has a quickie bio (like a paragraph or two) and a Q&A with designers like Marc Jacobs and Anna Sui. This would make a sweet gift too.

The Black Dress

First to recommend

Description

The Black Dress by Valerie Steele is great for those who want to look at pretty dresses and read quick and interesting quotes – no heavy reading required for this book.

This book starts off with an essay written by Valerie Steele, who is the Director of Chief Curator of the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (which is fabulous if you haven’t been). The book then continues with glossy photos of famously fashionable black dresses in history accompanied by fun quotes like this one:

“For her fifth wedding, the bride wore black and carried a scotch and soda” – Phyllis Battelle on Heiress Barbara Hutton.

For those who want a bit more meat, the end of the book has more detailed blurbs about each photographed dress and its place in history.

The book was nice; it was like flipping through a special edition magazine about black dresses. I would have loved to see more pictures as the book is pretty short but for small price tag I certainly got my moneys worth. The book is listed at $19.95 but is selling for a little over $13 at Amazon.com

Bringing Home The Birkin by Michael Tonello

Description

A book about hunting down the most coveted (and expensive bag) on the planet .. this has to be good. Plus look at the cover. I know you aren't supposed to judge a book by that but really, look at it.

Sex and the City: Amy Sohn

Description

If you are like me and wish you watched the Sex and the City movie on mute (it was too cheesy for me) then this book is PERFECT for you. Great photos from the movie not to mention an entire photo glossary of every outfit in the movie. Brilliant book. Would make a great addition to any fashion lovers bookshelf and it would also make a great gift for your gal pals.

Practically Posh: The Smart Girls' Guide to a Glam Life by Robyn Moreno

First to recommend

Description

I read this book a few nights ago and I really enjoyed it. Its a practical little guide to living the good life without having a boat load of cash.

Oh and don't think for a minute this is one of those lets make a centerpiece out of a tin can. This is just easy ways to be glam, like things to always have on hand if someone special stops by. Another great piece of info (one of my favorites in the book) was what produce should you always buy organic and which ones you can go ahead and buy the normal stuff. Really valuable information presented in a beautiful way.
