Xocai Omega Chocolate bar

First to recommend

Description

Xocai omega chocolate bars are a super-healthy and tasty chocolate bar. I eat them before a strenuous work-out and they keep me going through-out the whole session. At first, I was skeptical that these little bars would give me enough energy but they totally do. I eat one before a 2 hour ashtanga session and feel fine all the way thru to the final relaxation pose. Good for climbing sessions too, though better for colder days or indoors as the bars melt in the sun.

Packed w/loads of acai, omega 3's, and cacao, the Xocai bars have a good dark chocolate taste and a strong burst of fruit flavor. Some citrus-like, some acai. If you like dark chocolate mixed w/fruit and are looking for a good energy boost, check out the Xocai omega bars.

Flavorella Plumcots

First to recommend

Description

I love pretty much all types of stone fruits (ie plums, peaches, apricots, etc) and I especially love the new hybrid stone fruits. Probably my favorite of all the stone fruit hybrids is the Flavorella Plumcot, a super-sweet and juicy, yellow-fleshed cross between a plum and, you guessed it, an apricot. Plumcots are totally delicious, super-refreshing, and totally a summer favorite, awesome for picnics. Kids love them too though they can be a bit messy because they are so juicy and it gets all over their faces. Biggest bummer about the flavorella plumcots is that they are only in season for a couple of weeks in late May/early June

Fresh Sockeye Salmon Fillets

Description

Salmon, along with tuna, herring, and mackerel, are all excellent sources of essential fatty acids, or EFAs. Consume fish regularly lowers levels of a protein hormone called leptin, which has been linked to a slower metabolism and obesity.

Eat EFAs in the form of fish three to five times a week. (via Lady Thrills)

White Buck (goat cheese) by Westfield Farm

First to recommend

Description

I just discovered White Buck goat cheese from Westfield Farms. Amazing. I like Bucheron and other stronger goat cheeses (chevres). White Buck has a bit of a bite to it, is a little more crumbly than a Bucheron, and goes really well w/a good red Rhone which I am learning as I write this.

I personally love super-strong cheeses so my artisanal cheese palate tends towards the more potent (plus forte!) so bear that in mind when considering my recommendation. White Buck is not a super-strong cheese but it is not your average bland goats milk cheese either.

Xoçai: super-healthy chocolate/acai drink

First to recommend

Description

I recently discovered Xocai, a totally delicious mix of dark chocolate, acai, blueberries, and cayenne. Xocai comes as a powder and you mix in into a thick liquid and drink it as a shot 3 times/day. Packed w/tons of anti-oxidants, it is super-healthy and totally tasty. Xocai packs a wallop: drink a shot and then you feel like a super-hero. Great in the morning and before a work-out.

I am way into foods that help you super-charge your body in healthy and sustainable ways. Anything that can do that and has chocolate is a sure winner for me. Highly recommended

Lamothe Guignard Grand Cru Classe 2003 Sauternes

First to recommend

Description

Chateau Lamothe's 2003 Sauternes is fabulous, especially for the price (around $37/bottle). Sweet, fruity w/a bit of tang to it, Lamothe's Sauternes is a great deal for those who love Sauternes but don't want to shell out big dollars for Yquem all the time. Highly recommended.

Manuka Honey from SummerGlow Apiaries

First to recommend

2 people recommended this item

Description

I love honey- pretty much all kinds of honey but tend to prefer darker, often more bitter/less sweet honey. So when I was at my friends' Jade & Jason Calacanis' house and saw a jar of Manuka Honey from SummerGlow Apiaries on the table, I had to try it.

Delicious. The manuka honey has a smooth, buttery, slightly nutty flavor and milky color and texture. It is also not overpoweringly sweet.

Supposedly, SummerGlow's manuka honey is certified w/something called UMF (unique manuka factor) of 16 which makes it a potent antibacterial that the harvesters say is good for ulcers and digestion, as well as being packed w/oads of anti-oxidants. Manuka is the flowering plant this honey is made from.

I don't know if the manuka health claims are true or not, but the honey is tasty and I have read elsewhere about the anti-oxidant and antibacterial properties of honey, so I am inclined to believe that this honey might be more than just a sweet confection.

Regardless of its health benefits, I have been spooning it out straight out of the jar.

Bornem Double Abbey Ale

First to recommend

Description

Bornem Double Abbey Ale is a medium-dark, smooth, and luscious Trappist beer. It is slightly sweet w/a hint of coffee and fruit and a good head on it. Totally delicious. Its sort of like a more sweet version of Chimay Blue. Supposedly, the monks used to fast for 40 days and drink nothing but this ale. I guess they thought that getting hammered helped them get closer to God.
