Screwpull Wine Opener

Description
When you are starting to collect wines, get to know your local wine merchants and attend wine tastings. Listen to other opionions and read reviews then buy what suits your taste. And get a good corkscrew. This one is very reliable.

Sotheby's

Description
For old wines,I like to shop at auction houses. Sotheby's, Christie's, Butterfield's, and several other wine house have regular sales in California. Look for mixed cases and odd lots for best value. Don’t go into a price war, unless you have unlimited funds.

Decanter magazine
5 people recommended this item
Description
While I sorta wish this magazine was only about wine decanters (because that would be ridiculously niche-oriented) it's actually a pretty cool alternative to some of the more traditional wine mags. Which makes it a good gift subscription for the wine lover in your life who probably already has a dog-eared stack of back issues of Wine Spectator.

Riedel Overture Magnum Red Wine Glass
4 people recommended this item
Description
Good wine glasses are essential. Riedel makes some of the best . Unless you are a wine nut, a Chapagne flute, a glass for white wine and one each for Burgundy (Pinot Noir) and Bordeaux (Cabernet) will do.

I like the way many of the fancy decanters look, but for myself, I prefer a very traditional style.

Vinotemp Wine Fridge - Silver

5 people recommended this item
Description
Wines should be stored in a cool dark place with no vibration (like a cellar or basement). For more expensive wines, invest in a refirigerated wine storage unit or rent a locker in a wine store. This one is good for keeping small quantities of wine for drinking at home.

Leather Wine Carrier

Description
I don't care so much about how this looks as the fact that it is sturdy and will protect against breakage when transporting wines. The neoprene carriers are in fashion, but I would not use one to bring an old wine to a restaurant.
