Keychain Measuring Tape

First to recommend

Description

Purchasing mistakes are costly. You spend time in the store initially, then you have to come home, realize it’s wrong, and go all the way back to the store. Sometimes you have to wait in line to return the item, and then you have to find the right one afterward. Stop the madness— measure your space before you leave home, and then carry a keychain measuring tape with you. Now when you are in the store you can quickly measure the items before you purchase them, avoiding all the time and hassle.

Sharpie Metallic 4 pack Silver

First to recommend

Description

Labeling is key to staying organized, because it helps you communicate what the homes are for items and helps you identify contents. But how do you label something dark in color? Sharpie Metallics will show up on navy and black and really do the job well. You can use them for labeling videotapes, for example.

Museum Putty

First to recommend

Description

We put in a lot of drawer dividers when we organize a home, and many times they slide around in large drawers. To keep them in place, we put a little dab of Museum Putty underneath. We also like using this for its intended use, which is keeping knickknacks from falling off a shelf.

Sanford Rub-A-Dub Porous Tip Laundry Marking Pen

First to recommend

Description

So many people could get more help folding and putting away laundry if the items were labeled with the owner’s name. One trick we’ve used for years: Put one dot on your oldest child’s clothing, two dots on the next child’s, and so on. When the oldest outgrows the clothing, just add another dot to hand it down. Now anybody can fold and put away the clothes, because there is no ambiguity about where it goes.

Organize It Modular Shelving Pieces

First to recommend

Description

We use these modular units EVERYWHERE—they are great for utilizing vertical space that would have been wasted. We use them in closets, pantries, garages, and just about anywhere else there are fixed shelves spaced too far apart. They have a lot of different sizes and shapes of these units, but we like mostly the open shelving, not the cabinet pieces. They are great for shoes!

Rolling Laundry Organizer

First to recommend

Description

I love this laundry cart because it’s often better to store heavy laundry supplies at a lower, reachable level instead of in an upper cabinet. It also allows you to use that bit of space you often have between machines (you only need about 9 inches). You can store quite a bit in here!

SpaceScaping Kitchen Organizing System

First to recommend

Description

I invented this planning tool from organizing kitchens during our many client moves over the years. The system consists of 60 repositionable labels with tips and instructions on how to set up your kitchen right the first time. It allows you to easily plan the best cabinets and drawers to place your items BEFORE you put them away and have to move them when you change your mind! And even better--after you've organized your new streamlined kitchen, you can leave the labels on temporarily, say for a week, so that you and your family can quickly find things and get accustomed to the new arrangement.
