Upside-Down Sprayer - Lee Valley Tools

First to recommend

Description

Finally, a sprayer that works the way it should – at any angle even with low liquid levels. A weight at the end of the flexible intake tube always follows the liquid, ensuring good flow to nearly the last drop. The nozzle adjusts from a jet stream to a fine mist, and an integral strainer at the intake prevents blockage. The head fits any standard screw-neck plastic container; the included 700ml (24 fl oz) container has metric graduations to 500ml. Useful with non-corrosive cleansers, pesticides and fertilizers.

Made in Switzerland. Now you can aim under leaves or in confined areas without straining to hold the sprayer at an awkward angle. (via leevalley.com)

Hori Hori Knives - Lee Valley Tools

First to recommend

Description

This favorite of many professionals does five jobs well. Use it instead of a trowel for digging, planting bulbs, and weeding. The saw blade cuts roots and divides small perennials. The pointed end is a crevice tool.

Traditionally used in Japan to collect specimens for bonsai (hori means "digging"), the knife has a heavy steel blade that is dished, with a serrated edge on one side and a sharpened edge on the other.

Hardwood handle. Available with either a carbon-steel blade or a rust-resistant stainless-steel blade. The stainless knife has graduations and an extra-sharp blade. Each comes with a belt sheath and is approximately 12" overall.

Made in Japan. (via leevalley.com)

Piss-off Plant

First to recommend

Description

Although this looks like a harmless mint plant; cats, dogs and rabbits won't go near it. Even though we love our four-legged friends, they often dig, chew up and otherwise do their business in or near our gardens. What a handy natural deterrent! (via richters.com)

Foxgloves - Lee Valley Tools

First to recommend

Description

I'm pretty sick of the bulky garden gloves that I got for $2.00 at The Dollar Store. They were most certainly NOT a deal. I'm going to try out a pair of these. They are much more of what I am looking for in a garden glove.

Product Description:

These gloves are designed to deliver a nearly bare-handed sensitivity while protectin hands from sun, soil and abrasion. An "hourglass fourchette" (normally found in high-end dress gloves) and stretch nylon LYCRA combine to create an extremely comfortable glove that offers superior fit and dexterity. The tight knit of the fabric keeps soil out and hands and nails clean. Silicone dots on the palm and inside fingers provide enhanced grip, while a long cuff protects the wrist.

Machine washable, these gloves are available in three sizes. If you prefer to garden unemcumbered by work gloves, yet want to protect your hands from the elements. These gloves are an excellent solution.

Sizes: Small, Medium and Large

Contoured Kneeling Pad - Lee Valley Tools

First to recommend

Description

I don't know if it was genuflecting on those hard kneelers at Mass when I was a kid that ruined my knees, or if it's a simple defect of age (my Mom laughingly votes for that). However, I need some assistance when am on my knees in the garden for an significant period of time.

This unique pad provides ultimate knee comfort. Contoured to fit both knees, it distributes pressure evenly over the knee and upper shin, eliminating painful pressure points.

Made from non-absorbent closed-cell foam, that will never absorb moisture, it is thick enough to protect knees while gardening, landscaping and even home improvement.

An integrated handle makes it easy to carry and reposition. Well made in Germany. (via leevalley.com)

Miniature Spade - Lee Valley Tools

First to recommend

Description

It's so hard to find tools for indoor gardening. They are simply too big! Here is something that is perfect. I only wish I had come across it sooner, but at least I did stumble upon it.

This 7" spade is useful both indoors and outdoors. As well as serving a multitude of purposes indoors, it is equally useful when when it comes time to transplant seedlings into beds. It lets you separate seedlings, with root balls intact, for low-shock transplanting.

Made of hardened, ground and polished stainless steel.

A great stocking stuffer for gardeners.

Folding Catch Tray - Lee Valley Tools

First to recommend

2 people recommended this item

Description

The great advantage of this tray is that it can be rolled up (or folded) and tucked away when not needed. In use, it provides a 24" × 28" work surface, with inflatable 2" high edges to contain water and soil.

Made from heavy-duty waterproof vinyl, it makes a perfect potting tray (especially for those short on storage space), with ample room to fill pots without spilling on the floor. Alternatively, it is also an excellent catch tray to contain water spillage, or to protect the trunk of a car when transporting plants.

WaterStik - Lee Valley Tools

First to recommend

Description

Ensuring houseplants are never underwatered or overwatered is key to maintaining their health, but determining a plant's true watering requirements isn't easy. This simple soil-moisture monitor eliminates the guesswork, letting you know when plants need water, and – just as important – when they don't.

Effective with plant types from desert to tropical, it can be used for instant-read testing on plants all around the house, or for constant monitoring of a single plant. In the instant-read mode, four color-coded LED lights indicate if soil moisture is too high (blue), ideal (green), low (yellow) or dangerously dry (red). Left in the soil, it monitors constantly, alerting you when the plant needs water by subtly blinking either yellow or red, depending on urgency.

Runs on two included button-cell batteries (via leevalley.com)

Mediterranean-Style Wall Garden - Lee Valley Tools

First to recommend

Description

Balconies and small yards are challenging spaces for gardeners. These stackable planters protrude only 8" from a wall, making it possible to create a Mediterranean-style garden with minimal real estate. Measuring 2' wide by 23" tall, the three-level unit holds nine plants inside 3-1/2" wide pockets. Two center wells drain excess water to the bottom tray to avoid over-watering.

Made from strong polypropylene with UV inhibitors, it comes with a base, three stacking planters with lids, and connection hardware. The unit should be fixed to a wall or railing using the pre-formed holes (mounting hardware not included). Up to three sets of planters (nine in total) can be stacked to create a striking wall garden.

Made in Portugal. (via leevalley.com)
