Wedding stuff of the eco-kind - a list by zoesah

About this list:

Having a wedding or reception (may go off and get married) in the spring of '09. I would like to be responsible as possible, but also make a statement to others that are not so eco-conscious, that being environmentally aware is not that hard. It's just about making the right choice.

Handmade plantable seed paper

First to recommend

Description

I am playing with the idea of printing our wedding invitations on this paper. People really don't put the emphasis on keeping invitations as a keepsake as much as we would like to think. This would allow them to gain something longer lasting from the event while composting the paper. What a beautiful way to remember a wedding...wildflowers all summer. Of course, for a fall wedding they would have to wait to plant until spring.

Handmade flower petal jewelry

First to recommend

Description

Well, you could compost your flowers, have them preserved to sit on a shelf, or have them made into jewelry that you can wear. Bracelets, necklaces, rosaries, and such. I wanted to have this done with the flowers from my father's funeral, but I never followed through with it, so I will be sure to do it for my wedding. I may even give the jewelry to my mother as a gift...since she's been waiting so long for this event!

Plenty Magazine - Environmental News and Commentary

Description

This magazine is the BEST - I'm going to cancel my Smithsonian, just to get it (don't want to get more paper than I have).
The articles are great and best of all...the advertisements aren't supported by some gas guzzler - they are actually sustainable and green ads. Very nice

Ok, so I have way more than a green thumb, so perhaps this isn't perfect for everyone, BUT this is for ME!! I'm inclined to try to build one myself, which I could do, but I probably would never get around to it.

What's more functional than art, decor and a means to breath!

I think I would buy this stuff just to see it compost and put it in the oven! Who would have thought "disposable" would be good?

Is freezer and microwave-safe, and unbelievably, the claim it can go into a 400 degree oven for 30 minutes!

It also decomposes in a lake or river for 14 days, then which, the fibers can be eaten by the fish!! (decomposes in compost in 2 days and in the landfill in 90 days - how do they know this?)
