The No Pressure (but a little pressure) List - a list by Fossman

Options for This Page

About this list:

Whether dapper or drab, nearly everyone puts a great deal of effort into their "look." I guess there's pressure on us to look and feel cool. I don't know, it's a cultural thing or something. I certainly care, but I've always been anti-looking like I care. I also don't like spending more than three minutes getting dressed or grooming myself. So, amidst the pressure of looking cool, here's my no-pressure solution.

Qualifications:

I have a beard ... so, there's that.

BOA BOOTS By Rebirth

2 people recommended this item

Description

Mostly, I dig these because they look cool. They don't feel to bad, either. As a fan of Clark Wallabee's in the day, I like that these have a moccasin feel, but with the security of a boot. And generally speaking, I prefer to look as though I just crawled in from the rain or wandered down a mountain. And with these, well, let's just say, two birds, one stone (or boot, rather). But keep that a secret. I'd hate for anyone to know I try so hard to look like I don't try so hard.

Slim Straight Styled Jeans

Description

I'm not sure what's going on with that guy's head (see product photo). Max Hedrum meets Kid 'n Play. But I'm fraught with digression. It's the jeans I'm here for. And they're cool. I used to go for boot-cut stuff, but they're generally bulky and unnecessary even if you're wearing boots. I also just don't do well with that intentionally faded and hole-laden crap, either. If I want holes in my jeans, I'll buy a pair of these and go wrestle in the dirt. That's how we used to do it in the old ... well, you know, when Max Hedrum and Kid 'n Play were popular.

Planet Earth Tipton Flannel Button-Down Long-Sleeve Shirt - Men's

First to recommend

Description

People sometimes call me Paul Bunyan, and that sometimes hurts my feelings (OK, not really, but kind of). And I think I know why the do. It's the flannel. I know grunge ended more than a decade ago, but flannel is cool and comfortable, man. And I like wearing it. I hear it's making a resurgence in the hipster market, but don't fret. Soon as it becomes "popular" they'll stop wearing it. Anyway, buy one of these. The two pockets are key. I'll figure out what to actually use them for later.

Vintage Tractor T-shirt from Seattle's Tractor Tavern at Desteenation Shirt Co.

2 people recommended this item

Description

So, I don't actually own this shirt, but it's pretty cool lookin'. (I feel like I say "pretty cool" a lot. Weird) Some people are concerned with logos on tees because it's one thing to own vintage and another entirely to feign vintage with an '08 throwback t-shirt purchase. I like stuff like this for wearing under another shirt. Most people don't see the logo and, if for some reason I get hot and want to take off my long-sleeve deal, I have this pretty cool (I know) lookin' shirt underneath. Plus, this one also says "tractor" on it. Not sure that word has any inherent value, but this guy certainly thinks it's underused, taking a backseat to stupid movie quotes and nonsensical swirly pattern-y stuff when it comes to t-shirt making.

Original Aviator Sunglasses

Description

Think Top Gun, minus the gratuitous shirtless volleyball scene, bathroom butt-slapping and semi-weird pilot bonding. You actually can't be my wingman anytime, but your sunglasses sure are the disco shakes. Also, Ray-ban is the ONLY way to go when it comes to aviators.

Wahl Groomsman Beard & Mustache Trimmer 9916-817

2 people recommended this item

Description

It's not just a matter of semantics - clippers and trimmers are two different beasts in the beard world. Whether you're going for the fine-cut Guido Goatee or the hairier Hemingway, trimming is the way to go in the name of maintenance. While Wahl makes great clippers for necklines and sideburns, they will make your cheeks baby bald if you don't watch out. This (nearly) mistake-proof specialized beard and 'stache trimmer gets high marks from the hirsute.
