The State Within (BBC)

First to recommend

Description

A fantastic series from the BBC in which Ambassador to Washington Mark Brydon (played by Jason Isaacs) finds his skills tested to the limits when, following a major diplomatic incident, he is thrust into a web of tangled relationships and conflicting interests. In a world of high stakes, where manipulation of information means ultimate power, the question is: who can he trust?

An intriguing political thriller that we highly recommend.

Every minute counts in this action-suspense thriller that addresses the question: How prepared are we for the unthinkable?

A riveting, absorbing, suspensul and brilliantly executed film!!

I totally agree with Esh - this was a very very good movie.... I am a huge fan of Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn and they both excel in this political thriller set inside the United Nations. (via esh)

Fracture (2007)

First to recommend

Description

Anthony Hopkins (my whole time favorite!!) returns in 'Fracture' in which an assistant DA (Gosling) is caught up in a game of cat-and-mouse with a man (Hopkins) who tried to murder his wife and is set free on a series of technicalities.

Ryan Gosling is one terrific actor and I sure can't wait to see this movie. We just saw the trailer yesterday and it looks fantastic.

The Anna Nicole Show - The First Season

First to recommend

Description

I am so saddened by the death of Anna Nicole Smith. I remember seeing her at our parades in West Hollywood... She was flamboyant, yes but very funny and nice to everyone...

I watched Anna's show on E! and it had its ups and downs, but it had many comical moments! It seems so sad to look back on it all now.

Infamous (2006)

First to recommend

Description

This movie is as good as 'Capote' and it's too bad that these two movies came out so closely together, as we enjoyed them both equally. Toby Jones who portrays 'Truman Capote' is impeccable and Sandra Bullock's Harper Lee is first rate. The story follows the same path as 'Capote' in which Truman Capote plunges into the murder case that inspired his great "nonfiction novel" In Cold Blood, which will lead him into a fevered relationship with one of the two doomed killers, admirably played by Daniel Craig.

A great movie not to be missed.

Sleepers (1996)

Description

Jason Patric, Brad Pitt,Robert DeNiro, Dustin Hoffman,Minnie Driver, and Kevin Bacon, are all part of this marvelous cast, in a loss of innocence saga. Four boys commit a foolish and dangerous prank, and are sentenced to juvenal detention, they are repeatedly sexually abused by members of the staff. Years later the young men, one now a deputy district attorney, one a reporter, and two gangsters, get their revenge. a well thought out beautifully executed plot. Great performances throughout.

Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne (1988)

First to recommend

Description

This is a gem of a movie!.. Judith Hearn is a middle aged spinster earning a living by giving piano lessons in the Dublin of the 1950's. She falls in love with a shady hotel owner who, in turn, decides to exploit her as far as he can.

The cast is Bob Hoskins as James Madden,Maggie Smith as Judith Hearne, Wendy Hiller as Aunt D'Arcy, Marie Kean as Mrs. Rice, Alan Devlin as Father Quigley, Rudi Davies as Mary, Prunella Scales as Moira O'Neill, Aine Ni Mhuiri as Edie Marinan, Sheila Reid as Miss Friel, Niall Buggy as Mr. Lenehan and Kate Binchy as Sister Ignatius.

Maggie Smith and Bob Hoskins are superb in this fabulously romantic movie based on misunderstanding. Do not miss.
