Romeo and Juliet

Description
Without Shakespeare we would have no Hollywood, no dramatic endings, no tragic love stories, no big screen epics. Here's to the Bard who started it all, and to the stories that are as timeless & relevant today as they were the day they were written.

Description
Dear Jane Austen,
On this Valentine's Day 2007, I just wanted to say thank you for bringing so much joy to my life. You're a rock star, Jane - and I say that with only the highest respect.
Pride and Prejudice is a perfect, perfect novel - when I read it, everything else in my world seemd to freeze in time. Oh, how I wish I were the fiesty and truthful Elizabeth! Or do I wish I was Jane...beautiful and demure and so caring?
You weave stories that take me far away from this crazy world. You're so old - but you are the original modern woman, and for that I salute you.
Thank you for giving me Pride and Prejudice, Ms. Austen. Thank you for all your novels about heroines who beat to their own drum, aren't afraid to fall madly in love, and who refuse to settle for second best.
Love,
Beep

The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand

Description
Ayn Rand is an amazing storyteller. Putting philosophical differences aside, she brilliantly wrote epic stories with colorful, intriguing characters and grandiose plots. If you're a design or architecture aficionado, you'll appreciate the story of The Fountainhead - one man's journey to stay true to his artistic vision at any cost. (via Chantel)

The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, by Michael Chabon

Description
I couldn't put this book down. It is a fantastic story about 2 friends and their adventures in the post World War II comic book boom. A Pulitzer Prize winner, and worth every accolade. This isn't typically a subject that would interest me, but the writing is so beautiful, I was hooked on the first paragraph.
I'm adding this to my Classics list because it is trully a modern epic.
