About this list:

Tartan (a specific kind of plaid) is not just for kilts or for girls anymore. Hip on everything from scarves to shirts to dresses to tights to amulets. Speaking with a brogue is optional. Checks, plaids, tartans and tweeds all welcome.

Qualifications:

My second favorite color is plaid.

Burberry: Mini Bowling Bag

First to recommend

Description

Although according to the exacting specifications of tartan textiles the classic Burberry pattern is a plaid rather than a tartan, I feel as though this list would be incomplete without it. And the "bowling bag" shape, although not quite a classic in its own right, is my personal favorite. Cheers, Burberry !

Burberry: Men's Burberry London, 1.7 oz

First to recommend

Description

Maybe it's the top note of black pepper or the heart note of port wine or just the whole shooting match. Whatever it is, whenever I get a whiff of a man wearing this fragrance it makes me weak in the knees. In the best possible way. And, of course, even the plaid bottle is devastatingly handsome.

The Purple Meadow Dress by BB Dakota

First to recommend

Description

A neo-Victorian take on plaid, this frock is a little bit country, a little bit rock and roll, and a figure-flattering style for just for just about every woman's body.

Revolve Clothing: Herringbone Fur Basic Boot by GOKA

First to recommend

Description

Anything but basic, this shoe looks thoroughly exotic in a mad-cap mix of a herringbone fabric done in pony hair and a 4-inch striped heel. And I always used to associate herringbone tweed with all that is staid and conservative. GOKA, however, has oh-so-cleverly thrown the stereotypes out the window and created a bold, new future for herringbone. Well done !

Tweed Rubber Rain Boots by Sperry

First to recommend

Description

A rain boot with attitude, these "tweed" rubber pull-ons are almost worth the foul weather you endure while wearing them. Of course, no one ever said you had to save them for a rainy day . . .

Element Eden: Mariane Dress

First to recommend

Description

A sporty take on plaid, this dress could be worn as easily with boots as with heels. Add a t-shirt or turtleneck underneath for an even more dressed down approach.

Fred Perry: Women's Black Patent T-Bar Shoe

First to recommend

Description

So, in this case the plaid in on the inside. But the outside is an absolutely lovely patent leather flat with the Fred Perry "laurel" resting at the heel. Pretty and sharp. Like that in a shoe.

eLuxury: Men's Runway Tartan Scarf by Dsquared2

First to recommend

Description

Not a Scottish tartan, but an Italian one, specifically of the "House of Dsquared", it is robust and masculine. Fully lined, it will be as much for show as for go when the cold winds start to blow. Good gifting.

Plaid Puff-Sleeve Blouse by Dsquared2

First to recommend

Description

Deftly tailored, this blouse takes tartan to a fine feminine finish. Don't let the short sleeves fool you. This blouse is 100 percent wool . . . and clearly fit for cooler temps.

Express: Women's Plaid Ruffled Voile Blouse

First to recommend

Description

With a touch of glam added to the mix by way of metallic thread, this plaid blouse will rise up to nearly any occasion. Or, paired with jeans, become a weekend favorite. Light and ready for layering, it will work under a suit jacket or over a tee. In both a black and purple weave.
