how does one pick the best of nina simone? such a long, prolific career, with music to match every mood, every major life event, political event, each smile, and each tear.
each time i get fabulous, i hear "see-line woman" in my head, the where she talks about silk stockings with golden seams. that's how i know she's good.
this album is a pretty good intro to ms. simone. it does have "see-line woman," "mississippi goddam," "strange fruit," "i put a spell on you."
notably, it doesn't have a couple of my favorites, "i want a little sugar in my bowl," and "black is the color of my true loves' hair." but, that's what itunes is for...

i know i got my taste in music from my mother and her brothers, their love for reggae and jazz and whatever is soulful . my father was busy listening to the eagles, but that didn't rub off on me so much.
well, helen folasade adu is literally one of the most beautiful women on the planet, and beside the fact that her band is brilliant, and beside the fact that her lyrical dexterity is quite unmatched these days, given that so many focus on making and selling ringtone music...well, um, beside all that, there's nothing, really. sade is the best, this album, one of my favorites ever.
