The Novelty of Nature

I think we're seeing the first wave of eco-chic-- a period when consumers aren't quite sure what "eco-friendly" means. As a result, we're going to be inundated with how "green" products are through the novel use of natural materials even if they aren't made by eco-friendly means. In the second wave, we'll likely see more conventional items made of sustainable materials using cleaner methods. There's been a bit of this going on in indie fashion and other companies and I think it's driving the present trend.
