One of my ex-roomates calls my dog, Chewbacca a "fur factory". He had the displeasure of living with this sweet, but otherwise constantly shedding animal, and virtually drowning in the fur that collected on the floors and carpets. I began by cutting open and adding the oil from one of my own fish and Vitamin E oil capsules to his food. I also vigorously combed him with an undercoat rake to remove excess fur, dead skin and to improve circulation. After only a few days there was improvement. His coat was shinier and he was scratching less. I did some further research and discovered that there were supplements especially for dogs (and cats) for shedding and skin improvement. I decided upon Shed Pro. It comes in granules or in an oil that is added directly to your pet's food. There is also a guarantee that if you don't like the product, that you can return it for a full refund. Anyway, there has been massive improvement. Shed Pro contains Lecithin, Soybean, Safflower, Sunflower, Olive, Cod Liver Oils (source of Vitamins A, B Complex, E, Linolenic and Linoleic Acids), Natural Flavors, Garlic and Zinc, and there is no water added. I have a dog with a rather thick undercoat. He tends to be a heavy shedder. Especially during certain seasons of the year. Regular combs and brushes simply do not get down far enough to remove enough dead fur. One of the woman at a local (not chain) pet store recommended an undercoat rake. She was right on the money. This tool not only gets down and effectively removes the fur from the undercoat, but it gently removes some dead skin and debris as well. This is a very unique and useful product. That is if you can actually get your dog to use it! Another reason, as The Green Head (another This Next User) says cats are better. If he or she is a serious chewer and needs a "highly digestible" chew (unlike rawhide) that will keep them busy for an hour or so. Then the Booda Bone may not be a bad purchase. They are wheat gluten free, if that's a concern, and come in a variety of flavors. Also, a low fat treat, overall this seems to be a relatively healthy treat. The product boasts a design that helps plaque and tartar control. My dog loved the peanut butter one I got him and just devoured it. No harm done.
