Run Lola Run (1998)

Description

I hope you enjoy watching Lola run, because she does a good bit of that in this movie. Fantastic electronica techno dance music--worth buying the soundtrack. German with subtitles.

The Final Countdown (1985)

First to recommend

Description

Sci-fi, mystery, war drama--it's got them all. Fun to watch whan you don't know what's going on. Fun to watch again when you know more than the first time. Fantastic Navy plane scenes comparable to Top Gun.

Cadence (1991)

First to recommend

Description

There's just something about the simple, slow pace of this movie that draws me in. I must have seen it a dozen times or more. For some reason I can't explain, the performance of "End of My Journey" in the middle of the movie moves me so much I get tears in my eyes every time.

The Langoliers (1995)

First to recommend

2 people recommended this item

Description

I love this movie even though it has a bit of a horror twist. I enjoy the mystery and suspense created by the situation in which these characters find themselves.

It doesn't matter that this is an old made-for-TV mini-series with cheesy special effects and uninspired acting. It doesn't matter that I know the ending and that the ending is a dumb letdown after all that buildup. I am still captivated by the story every time I see it.

The Trigger Effect (1996)

First to recommend

Description

A very believable representation of how people might respond to something as simple and scary as losing electricity (and radio, and TV, and ...). One of my favorite studies of civilization falling apart.

Toys (1992)

First to recommend

Description

Toys is another of one of those movies that I can watch repeatedly but which I have a hard time finding anybody else who liked it at all. I find toys beautifully uplifting and briefly disturbing and the visuals and music are so (over the top) pure I can't help smiling. Most of the movie would be wonderful for young kids, but there are a couple scenes to give them nightmares so I don't recommend it. Don't expect a deep movie, but do watch it on a large screen TV.
