Description

I've tried almost every planner. These are ideal for a mom with a busy schedule and small handwriting. The larger size is a must for those with larger handwriting but it would fit as easily in a purse due to its width. That said the design is lovely thanks to the fact that these are one of the few planners designed by a graphic designer.

It's not the most convenient planner I've used and definitely doesn't work for business (no real notes pages) but it's great for a busy mom and again, great looking and the most portable of all the planners I've purchased.

Time/system Planner

First to recommend

Description

This is a serious planner system and when they say system they mean system. It even comes with online training. For those of you who espouse David Allen's Getting Things Done principles (I think he got his start at this co.) this system utilizes a next actions list that folds over each day so that you don't have to rewrite your list. Very efficient indeed. It's also got forms for meetings and notes and a unique system for handling frequent contacts. Plus it's actually part of the permanent collection at the Cooper Hewitt. I don't know of another planner that can say that.

I used my system in my Filofax binder as the binder that came with the system was hideous. Oh, and this system is pricey as an initial investment but they claim you could regain 1-2 hours a day so I guess it's a small price to pay.

okay. this is one i don't have but i want it, people, i want it. why? the interior spreads are lovely and minimalist. plus, i have to admit that is has a certain snooty designer appeal. it says it has notes pages and forward calendars, etc. but they don't show images. i haven't actually purchased this one yet so i can't share any with you. sorry. you'll have to go with your gut on this one.

these are fun. period. the pages are creative and they feeeel good. they have a pocket/envelope and stickers. i got mine at anthropologie but i haven't seen one there since. they seem to sell out quickly online. though they're not traditional planners i do feel like they give you a bit of note taking room and they're so colorful and lighthearted that you feel good about doodling and being creative within them without feeling like you're ruining something sacred. they're friendly!

Hable Construction - scarlet flower wheat linen 2008 desk agenda

First to recommend

Description

i've wanted something from hable construction for years. i've had my eye on their bags, their aprons, their pillows, their baskets...you get the idea. so, last planner seaon (though planner season never truly ends) i find that that hable construction has chosen to wrap a planner in their stunning fabrics. they're on clearance now but i encourage you to check out the possibilities. be careful though, you may find you checking account quite a bit lighter after browsing there.

enjoy!

Nava Milano Settigiorni Agenda Medium 2008 Orange by Nava design Fitzsu Society

First to recommend

Description

i have this one and will post additional pictures of my own since there are seemingly no detailed pictures anywhere or these. i will say that the people at fitzsu were wonderful to chat with about what the pages were actually like and they did email additional images to me. i just need a serious level of detail when i buy an agenda.

this one is gorgeous. the color is lovely. the weight is perfect. paper is nice to write on. type is beautiful. it's in italian so you feel so cosmopolitan while you're trying to figure out what day it is. military time and a two hour lunch though which i solved by just writing the appt. time in myself.

big issue for me. no notes pages. the woman at fitzsu says it's a great tool for those working internationally since it lists holidays, time zones, sizes, etc. (as does times/design).

overall, an incredible value for impeccable design.

Moleskine 2008 Red Large Weekly Planner

First to recommend

Description

okay. this is almost too old to list but i do so knowing that you can get a new one for the coming year. in fact, they're actually making them with a july start date now but not in the red (at least i don't think the red is available).

i made the mistake of buying the DAILY one and here were the problems:
-too large, meaning too thick/heavy
-no note area unless you note on the daily page which means you have to flip each page for new notes which i find to be a pain.
-while there is an additional notebook it's too thin for a real note taker like me.
on the plus side:
-fun stickers!
-beautiful color and the great quality you expect from moleskine
-elegant font and use of appropriate rule sizes. nothing clunky.

His and Hers Couple's Calendar

Description

a couple's calendar! i've seen lots of mom's calendars but this is the first couple's calendar i've ever seen. who knows? it says it's better than couple's therapy and god knows i'd trust it more than i'd trust a marriage counselor these days.
