Lixit Crate Bottle

Description

My dog and I attend a lot of events together, and when it's time for her to get a break away from the crowds of people, she is usually safely crated in her Vari Kennel. One problem I've found is getting her enough water when she's crated.

Most water bowls that attach to the inside of a crate hold a lot of water but they aren't very stable. It's easy for a dog to spill the water or knock the bowl out of its holder. They also take up a lot of space inside the crate.

I like the Lixit bottle as a solution for this problem because it attaches to the outside of the crate. It doesn't take up space inside, and dogs can't knock it off or spill the water. It's also very easy to take off and refill, and some types of Lixit bottles have a snap-open top to make refilling even easier.

If you travel a lot or your dog is frequently crated or kenneled, this is a good solution for keeping him or her supplied with fresh drinking water. Even if it does look like a large rabbit bottle. ;)

Tazlab Safe-T Collar

First to recommend

Description

Every year, dogs die because they were suffocated / choked by their own collars.

There are many instances in which this can happen - a dog trying to escape from its crate or two dogs playing together and becoming entangled seem to be the most common of these accidents. While we all know to never leave a choke chain on a dog except for training, even flat nylon or leather collars that most people have on their dogs 24-7 can be the cause of such a death.

Tazlab's Safe-T collar addresses this problem.

Their unique design includes an elastic band between the two D-rings. When the collar is not in "use" and gets caught on something, the elastic allows it to stretch far enough for the dog to pull his head out and free himself. When the collar is in "use", the leash clips to both D rings on either side of the elastic and keeps the collar from stretching when it's needed to hold the dog.

The Safe-T collar also has a separate space at the front of the collar to hook your dog's license and ID tags to. The collar is available in many different colors to suit almost anyone's taste.

The Pet Top

First to recommend

2 people recommended this item

Description

This is a pretty smart and useful little item.

The Pet Top is designed to fit onto the opening of any standard bottle of water that you can purchase at the grocery store or gas station on your way to the park, and it turns the water bottle into a lick-it watering device for your dog.

This is a lot more convenient than bringing along extra bottles of water for your dog, or travel bowls, cups, or other devices that may not fit into your pocket as easily as the Pet Top does. You can even share the same bottle, since the Pet Top is easily removable.

My dog knows how to drink out of a bottle (she sticks her tongue in), but this is a better, and more hygienic way to keep your dog hydrated when you're out in the summer heat.

iClick

First to recommend

Description

Clicker training is a fun and motivational way to work with your dog. In clicker training, the clicker is used to mark the correct behavior (timing is important with this!) and then reward it by either treats, praise, a toy or tug, or other means. Clicker training allows you to teach fairly complex behaviors through free-shaping, too.

Remember those square "box" clickers they sell at the PetStore? Those are such a pain! You have to stick your finger into the box to click it - so if you don't have it ready to click you just missed your chance to mark the correct behavior.

The iClick is just a smarter design. The big yellow button can be clicked from anywhere - you can click it with your fingers, palm, foot, even against the side of your leg if you need to. You don't have to fumble and search for the "right" end of the clicker or rush to get your finger into the right place.

Kelty K-9 Chuckwagon

First to recommend

Description

Dog packing is a fun way to spend an afternoon or a weekend if you enjoy the outdoors. I love to hike and camp with my 4 year old German Shepherd, Abby, and we have plans to pursue a pack dog title (through the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog Club, which is the only club that will title a non-Swissy and non-Husky pack dog) once we move back south next spring.

When you hike and pack with your dog, you'll want a comfortable pack for yourself and you want an equally comfortable pack for your dog. The Kelty Chuckwagon is a great pack for beginners, for day hikes, and for weekend trail hikes.

Kelty often gets a bit of a reputation for being "cheap". I have found that this pretty much applies only to the price (the Kelty dog pack is about $50 and their human packs are priced nicely as well), not to the actual quality of the equipment they manufacture. This Kelty dog pack as well as their human packs are very well made, durable, and lightweight.

The dog pack features a Y-front which helps the pack ride comfortably with no constricting chest strap that impairs the dog's movement. It has expandable panniers ("saddlebags") and is padded on top. It comes only in red, but as red is highly visible that's a good choice on the trail. It also has reflective striping on the side. The nylon and fittings are good quality.

We have had our Kelty pack for awhile now and are really happy with its quality and durability. We were able to try the pack out in the store before REI stopped allowing dogs inside the store - getting a good fit is just as important with dog packs as with human packs.
