Beijing National Stadium: The "Bird's Nest" by Herzong & DeMeuron (Swiss) and Li Xinggang
First to recommend
Description
The blueprint for this stadium was completed in 2003, but the "Nest" was not fully complete until weeks before the 2008 Olympic Games are scheduled to begin tomorrow, August 8, 2008. Now that it is complete, the stadium will act as an anchor for the games, hosting the opening and closing ceremonies. It is as rich in symbolism as it is large in size. The red glow, which is visible beginning at dusk, represents luck and optimism. And the structure itself is intended to project a sense of movement and energy. Good luck to all the athletes, along with their dedicated coaches !

Roseark: Lucky Frog Necklace by Borgioni
First to recommend
Description
I'm not sure why this frog is considered lucky, but he is definitely much more handsome than your average frog. Perhaps he is meant to saving you from having to kiss any before you meet that prince who is so patiently waiting for you to find him . . .

Well Revered: Vintage Vampire Protection Brooch
First to recommend
Description
If you feel as though you are being haunted by something unnatural or you simply have a taste for the macabre, this ribbon-tied vintage cross may strike you as an excellent find. I love the vintage cross, but I am never one to turn down the offer of protection either.

Description
These coasters are a part of a collection commemorating the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, which began on a date which the Chinese consider to be extremely fortunate: 08/08/08. In Mandarin, the word for eight rhymes with the word for prosperity and wealth. And, similarly, each of these coasters bears a number imbued with good fortune: five for the "Five Good Fortunes"; six for prosperity and nine for forever. (For a more in-depth explanation, see the Shanghai Tang website.) Good luck to all of the athletes who are still competing in the XXIX Olympiad !

Evoking the qualities of nobility, perfection and immortality, these jade sculptures (square, small round and medium round) are a rustic and handsome addition to a mantel or sofa console in your home. And candlelight dances in magical ways upon the rough hewn stone.

Gump's: Blue and White Ginger Jar Scarf
First to recommend
Description
This silk scarf bears four shou symbols, linked by a circle of gold. Representing longevity in Chinese lore, the shou symbol is also a lovely decorative element within a larger design similar to the character for "double happiness". Given as a hostess gift, this scarf will be a dual expression of thanks and blessings.

Shanghai Tang: Women's Cotton Polo Shirt with Embroidered Double Fish
First to recommend
Description
Emblematic of love, harmony and abundance, the double fish are a good team to have on your side as you enter into competition or embark upon a new endeavor. A pretty sharp souvenir too, even if you didn't make it to Beijing for the Olympic Games. In pale blue or black.

wooden dolls by alexander girard
First to recommend
Description
Inspired by the cultures of South America, Asia and Eastern Europe, Alexander Girard originally created this set of dolls for himself. Faithfully reproduced by Vitra using Girard's drawings, these dolls are now available to give and collect. They remind me of my favorite ride at DisneyLand: "It's A Small World" . . . and the hope for harmony that the Olympic Games has tried to ignite within our world. Sappy? Maybe. But, that's me, hoping for world peace and an awesome finish to the XXIX Olympiad . . .
