Fifty Designers' Current Favourite Typefaces

3 people recommended this item

Description

We love fonts. Seriously. We. LOVE. Fonts.

And the simplicity of a book that really just shows you typefaces that fifty designers are currently digging is the kind of understated awesomosity that we just love.

Plus: 100% of the proceeds go to UNICEF. So you can be a design nerd for charity. WOO HOO!

Jamungo Bomb Of The Month: Smile F*cker

First to recommend

Description

Jamungo is officially Steve's new favorite designer toy company. Because they make toys that say "f*ck" on them, and that is the sort of thing that launches him into giggling fits that usually end with Diet Pepsi flying out of his nose.

The Bomb Of The Month series has a new 3" figure coming out each month using one of Jamungo's four head shapes...a grenade, a bomb, a flame, or an A-Bomb. Sometimes they'll give guest artists a shot at the design, other times Ferg himself will do the design. In any event, they are always great.

Smokin' Joe Stalin - Rotofugi Exclusive Cyan Flocked

First to recommend

Description

From Rotofugi:

Grab your baseball shirt and smokes, comrades.

Frank Kozik follows up his "Bird is the Word" Smokin' Mao bust with another satirical spin on the world's worst dictators. In Frank's twisted world Stalin's having a DiMaggio moment, smokin' in a pinstriped "Bolsheviks" baseball jersey (although you can't really see the pinstripes in this flocked version).

Rotocast vinyl with a nice fuzzy coating of cyan blue flock. This Rotofugi exclusive version is an edition of just 50 pieces! Designed by Frank Kozik and sculpted by Brin Berliner for Kid Robot.

From Shoparooni Steve:

Holy crap. Seriously. Friggin' WOW.

NeighborWood DIY Figure by Mike Burnett

First to recommend

Description

This is very seriously one of the coolest things we've ever seen.

They arrived today, and Steve absolutely could not stop fiddling about with the display models.

The Neighborwood is a DIY wooden figure, designed by Cleveland artist Mike Burnett. It's the same principle as the Munny from Kidrobot...a blank toy that you decorate yourself. But this one is made of WOOD!!!

It's a more solid material that's got far more staying power than vinyl, and we think there is a larger range of possibilities considering that it's solid.

The only downside is that wood is an organic material, and these are prone to being affected by the weather. The head is glued from 3 pieces, and the ears are glues on as well. So if these have been exposed to high heat during shipping or storage, you will see the beginnings of some separation of the glue joints. It's nothing major, and the glue holds just fine. Once it's been painted, it won't be noticeable at all!!

The wooden slide-top box can also double as a display box which, of course, you can also customize!!

Pure genius from Bigshot Toyworks and Mike Burnett. Well done!

NYC Garbage Cubes - Limited Edition

3 people recommended this item

Description

This amazing couple in NYC took that whole "one man's trash is another man's treasure" entirely too literally.

And of course, people lined up to buy it.

For a few measly dollars, you can get a small cube filled with your very own stash of official NYC garbage. From Times Square! From Shea Stadium! From Yankee Stadium!

Guaranteed not to stink or leak. Also guaranteed to be ridiculous and awesome.

Jeremyville is easily one of the most prolific artists in the lowbrow/designer toy movement. You can find his work everywhere from concert shirts to vinyl toys to posters to multimillion dollar ad campaigns.

This mammoth 256 hardcover book shows off EVERY SINGLE COLLABORATION HE'S EVER DONE!!

Plus: Stickers. Poster. DVD.

Whoever printed this deserves a big, wet kiss. And we're pretty sure that you'll get one if you snap up one of these as a gift for someone.

Brandon Bird: "Man of Tomorrow"

First to recommend

Description

Brandon Bird is truly a man of the people. While painters around the world line up, easel in hand and beret at the ready, in front of picturesqe landscapes and bowls of fruit Brandon has his ear to the ground. He knows what we want and is not afraid to give it to us. Even if what we want is Rod Stewart.

If you visit his site you'll find tons of fabulous paintings of Chuck Norris, Christopher Walken, and, may personal favorite, Bea Arthur. Each one is totally silly and perfect. We chose to tag the Rod Stewart painting in particular because it has, by far, the best description of all:

"This was a commission. Which means the biggest "wtf?" about this is that someone out there--and I don't want to name names--likes Rod Stewart."
