This Is Me - a list by joe

About this list:
This list is intended to include only recommendations of things that I truly love, in order of how much I love the item. I'm hoping it'll represent my identity better than my growing mishmash of recommendations of "things that look neat" I've posted so far. It's totally experimental and I have no idea whether I'll remember to keep it up-to-date, etc.

Going Somewhere: Colin Hay
First to recommend
2 people recommended this item
Description
If you listen to Colin Hay, you may find yourself wondering where you've heard that voice before. He was the lead singer for Men at Work. Now he's the mellow lead singer of his own, much-less-well-known band.
His new style is much more introspective, and it still speaks to me as much as "I come from a land down under" ever did.

The first half of this book reviews relativity and quantum mechanics. The second half introduces the science-interested-but-not-expert reader to the strange world of string theory and M theory.

White Pepper
First to recommend
Description
This is the "gateway drug" Ween album. You may find yourself singing along to a catchy little ditty and then realize you're harmonizing with lyrics that recount a summer spent in Mexico snorting cocaine and eating bananas.

Squeezebox
27 people recommended this item
Description
I loved my original SliMP3, the predecesor to the squeezebox. From all accounts, Slim Devices has only made things better in the following generations. Though I passed on my SliMP3, I am seriously tempted to pick up a new Squeezebox, especially with all of the streaming Internet radio it supports in addition to listening to your MP3 collection on your Linux box.

Harper's Magazine

Description
Harper's is the one magazine I read consistently. They catch your attention with the famous Harper's Index, draw you in with the short articles in the "Readings" section, and really deliver with the long, feature articles. (via weeone)

CLIF BAR Apricot Flavor
4 people recommended this item
Description
I agree with taniafisher: Apricot is the best. I'll never forget my first Clif bar. During a brief stint working in Denver, I drove up to Frisco Nordic Center for a day of skiing. In order to keep pace with the three-lunged, 9000-foot-residing locals, I had to spend my last $2 on one of these calorie biscuits. Maybe it was the endorphins, but I will always remember the apricot Clif bar as a nutritious part of this perfect life. (via taniafisher)
